XPS has produced the first antimony ingots from the American Tungsten & Antimony’s (ATAA) Antimony Canyon Project (ACP) in Utah, marking a key metallurgical milestone in ATAA’s push to establish a mine-to-metal critical minerals supply chain in the United States.

Once largely viewed across the Western world as a contaminant, antimony is now recognized for its strategic importance as a critical minor metal used in renewable energy, defence and high-tech industries. With China continuing to dominate the market, Western companies are increasingly looking to secure new sources of supply.

ATAA is one of these emerging critical minerals companies focused on rebuilding secure Western supply chains for antimony and tungsten, with a growing portfolio of projects across the United States and Australia.

Its Antimony Canyon Project in Utah is central to this strategy, with ATAA advancing test work and development activities to support a potential domestic U.S. source of antimony.

To support ATAA’s investor engagement and fast-track its Antimony Canyon development strategy, XPS was engaged to rapidly produce physical antimony samples from project material.

XPS received approximately 100 kg of hand-sorted massive stibnite from ACP, which was smelted to produce antimony metal as ingots and coins. This provided ATAA with tangible samples to demonstrate the project’s mine-to-metal potential to investors.

“Production of the ingots comes at a very busy time for our company but provides tangible evidence that we are on the right track” commented Andre Booyzen, Managing Director and CEO of ATAA.

Following the successful outcome, ATAA has since engaged XPS for further technical work, including mineralogical analysis to support the next stages of project development.

“We were very impressed with the technical capabilities and adherence to tight deadlines by the XPS Team in delivering on this project” commented Wiehann Kleynhans, VP Downstream Operations of ATAA.

This milestone further reinforces XPS’s position as one of North America’s most flexible metallurgical solution providers, with the technical capability to rapidly adapt, test and deliver practical outcomes across emerging critical minerals projects.
