About the role:
Reporting to the Lead Systems, Environment Water Treatment, the Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Technician is responsible for supporting the systematization and management of documents and information in relation to regulatory requirements, environmental incidents, inspection databases and environmental training for EVR’s water treatment facilities. This role plays an important part in maintaining compliance with our obligations and internal HSEC-HR Standards and proactively mitigating environmental and regulatory risks.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who takes initiative, builds positive relationships through collaboration and demonstrates integrity. This person thrives in a fast-paced team environment and can prioritize and organize contending demands. Most importantly, we require an individual with outstanding organizational skills, a systematic, process driven mindset and the ability to find practical and sustainable document management solutions with the purpose of influencing and implementing continuous improvement.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of passionate professionals working with EVR’s Water Treatment technologies (Active water Treatment Facilities (AWTFs), Saturated Rock Fills (SRFs), Antiscalant Addition Facilities (AAFs) and Reverse Osmosis – High Density Sludge (RO-HDS) treatment facilities). These facilities represent some of the most advanced selenium and nitrate removal and calcite prevention technologies in the world. This position will be part of a team of hard-working professionals in a growing and technically exciting field to advance the objectives of EVR’s Elk Valley Water Quality Plan!

In this role you will:
- Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
- Collaborate with, and develop and maintain working relationships with various disciplines and departments
- Use and maintain systems, databases and processes to track and manage documents related to obligatory requirements, environmental incidents and assurance activities
- Support document management and delivery of environmental training and awareness materials
- Support the implementation of environmental obligations, management of change and continuous improvement initiatives to manage environmental risks associated with water treatment operations
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma in Environmental Science or similar subject area
- Experience in the field of environmental compliance, environmental management systems (like ISO14001), monitoring in the water treatment and /or resource management fields
- Comfort with change management and identifying impacts to systems, processes and documents across various disciplines and departments
- Basic understanding and awareness of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices related to water management and resource development
- Experience with environmental data management, analysis, reporting, utilizing databases and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite® is an asset
- Knowledge of environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, water quality, water treatment, or fisheries is an asset
- Experience in water treatment is an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
