About the role:

Reporting to the Drill and Blast Engineer, Mine Engineering, the Mine Technician, Survey is responsible for working closely with the engineering and operations teams to provide survey guidance and data collection to support safe and productive mining operations, including the use of UAV’s, GPS data collectors, field staking, and computer design software among others. The position follows a 4x4 day shift schedule.

To be successful, we require someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who works well as an individual and as a team player. This person has strong analytical, logistical, and problem-solving skills, and can prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment.

About the role:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Collaborate closely with mine operations, engineering, drill & blast, and site project teams to provide site survey guidance including:
    • Surface data collection with UAV system
    • Field staking and manual data collection with GPS data collector
  • Maintain As-Built design files for engineering and collect surface UAV scans for monthly reconciliation
  • Provide design updates for the digital design guidance systems for mining equipment, such as BenchManager/BenchView for the mine’s shovels
  • Participate in cross training with the Drill & Blast Mine Technician (which includes blast pattern design, issuing explosive loading instructions, designing blast pattern timing) to support occasional team coverage
  • Once competent in the role, provide survey training to new team members or co-op students 

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Mining, Survey, Geomatics, Engineering technology, or similar relevant diploma/degree is preferred
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent 
  • Experience with survey geospatial tools and processes (GPS data collectors, processing of LiDAR or photogrammetry scans) is a strong asset
  • Canadian UAV Pilot Certificate (Advanced preferred) is an asset
  • Exposure to mine design software, particularly MinePlan3D is an asset
  • Basic digital literacy and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite®

Salary: $85,000 - $105,000 CAD/year


The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
