About the role:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Health & Safety, the Coordinator, Emergency Response is responsible for the site-wide emergency management program. They will manage emergency response gear and equipment, training, rescue teams as well as lead emergency preparedness activities and ensure that rescue teams are trained to safely and effectively respond to site-related emergencies.

To be successful we require someone with the ability to multitask, stay organized, and adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced team environment. Someone who is self-motivated, has strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and is detail-oriented, with a passion for continuous improvement. Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are vital in this role.

In this role you will:

Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
Support implementation of the SafeCoal safety management system
Promote Health and Safety leadership amongst employees and contractors, providing mentorship and direction on the application of site procedures and programs
Maintain detailed records of responses utilizing D4H
Develop and maintain the operations Credible Threat register
Develop and prepare pre-emergency plans and SOGs
Perform routine emergency response equipment inspections and participate in audits as required
Train, supervise, and support Mine Rescue members
At a minimum, develop and implement all training materials related to mine rescue as per the Western Canada Mine Rescue Manual
Maintain comprehensive training and equipment certification records for reporting and legal compliance
Support inspections and maintenance of fire detection and suppression equipment as per regulatory requirements
Provide subject matter expertise in areas of risk and emergency response to auditors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies
Coordinate emergency management scenarios and drills
Maintain emergency response plans
Support the avalanche management program Prepare annual budget and 5-year plan

Requirements:

BC Ministry of Mines and Critical Minerals Surface Mine Rescue certification
Advanced First Aid certification
Minimum five years of relevant emergency response or mine rescue experience
Experience in industrial firefighting
Strong digital literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite®: Excel, Word, and Outlook
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
Avalanche Operations Level 1 would be an asset
NFPA 1081, Standard for Industrial Fire Brigade Member Professional would be an asset
NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications would be an asset
NFPA 1041, Level 1 (Fire Service Instructor Level1) would be an asset
NFPA 1072, Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Technician would be an asset
Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) 300 would be an asset

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
