About the role:
 
Reporting to the Manager, Environment, the Senior Lead, Environment, is responsible for executing programs vital to ongoing compliance and continual improvement related to surface/ground water, air, wildlife and waste at our Greenhills Operation.
 
To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and communication skills, who can prioritize multiple responsibilities and see projects through to completion. Leadership skills will be key as you will be leading a team of environmental professionals as well as contractors and consultants providing technical direction, mentorship, and field support for emerging environmental challenges.
 
In this role, you will engage with regulatory agencies, First Nations, and communities of interest, building and maintaining positive relationships with these and our internal departments. You will also work directly with site operational teams to facilitate ongoing compliance and continuous improvement, gaining field and operations experience for your future career progression!

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Supervise Environmental Leads and support management of site Environment teams, contractors, and consultants
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with internal teams and external agencies
  • Manage compliance to all legal and other requirements and contribute to various reports to meet provincial and federal requirements and corporate commitments and initiatives
  • Engage collaboratively with internal departments and regulatory agencies, First Nations, and communities of interest
  • Communicate data in a clear and understandable format suitable for intended audiences to advise mine operations, permitting, and water management to gain resolution of issues or challenges
  • Support continued certification of EVR Environmental Management System (EMS), as well as maintaining other commitments from Mining Association of Canada and International Council on Mining and Metals
  • Implement and maintain environmental operational controls, such as Management Plans, Standard Practices and Procedures, and efficiency reviews
  • Support development and execution of budgets and maintain strong cost control

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum eight years of experience in an environmental management capacity
  • Demonstrated ability leading a team
  • Solid understanding of environmental management practices and systems related to water quality, water use, air quality, waste, and biology (fish, birds, mammals, reptiles, vegetation)
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal regulatory requirements applicable to a large natural resource industry
  • Strong digital literacy and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite®, data management systems, and spatial data systems and tools
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with a relevant professional accreditation would be an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
