The Opportunity
 
We are currently seeking a Temporary Technical Assistant - XPS (up to 12 months) to join the XPS business in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.
 
The position will be based in Falconbridge, Greater Sudbury, Ontario.
 
This is a Temporary (up to 12 months) contract, unionized position.

XPS, a Glencore company is a licensed metallurgical engineering, technology and test services business offering industry relevant solutions and global expertise in orebody characterisation, flowsheet development, operational support, growth initiatives and asset integrity management for most commodities including gold, nickel, copper, zinc, PGEs, rare earth and industrial minerals.  We comprise seven distinct integrated business groups representing the following key disciplines: Mineral Processing, Mineral Science, Pyrometallurgy, Hydrometallurgy, Process Simulation & Modelling, Process Control and Materials Technology.


Reporting to the XPS Lab Supervisor, the Technical Assistant is responsible for organizing, co-ordinating, planning and reporting on test work, sampling, and monitoring of production processes and equipment.

The Technical Assistant participates in teams responsible for start-up and commissioning of new equipment as directed by the Area Engineer or Senior Technologist and will also organize, plan and perform tests in the plant, environment or laboratory. In this position the incumbent will operate sampling and analytical equipment and participate in formalizing recommendations for changes/ improvement to increase process efficiency. Quality work in this position is essential. Time management and organization skills are required to respect all deadlines. Incumbent must be able to wear PPE and do physical work.

This position requires a Community College graduate from a three-year environmental, metallurgical, or chemical engineering technology program or acceptable equivalent studies and up to one year relevant experience in collecting samples, using monitoring equipment and/or carrying out laboratory and sample preparation methods on mining or metallurgical materials. Must have G2 or G license.
