Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary Range: $128,000 - $145,000

XPS is seeking a skilled Senior Mineral Processing Engineer to join the Mineral Processing Group in Sudbury, Ontario. The group provides support for both long-term strategic growth initiatives and short-term operational needs for mining clients around the world. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in mineral processing, flowsheet development, process optimization, metallurgical testwork, pilot plant programs, and consulting studies while supporting business development and client growth initiatives.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, this role supports projects ranging from laboratory testwork and pilot plant programs through scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, plant optimization, and operational support.

What You'll Do

As Senior Mineral Processing Engineer, you will provide technical expertise while supporting the growth and success of our consulting business.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide metallurgical expertise for all aspects of mineral processing projects and studies to support client efficiency, growth, and value creation.
  • Develop and evaluate mineral processing flowsheets for new projects and plant expansions.
  • Apply practical and theoretical knowledge of grinding, gravity concentration, magnetic separation, and flotation processes for polymetallic base metal ores as well as lithium and graphite projects.
  • Integrate quantitative mineralogy and geometallurgy into flowsheet development, plant optimization, and troubleshooting programs.
  • Develop process design criteria and technical recommendations for mineral processing facilities.
  • Perform techno-economic analyses to support project evaluation and enhance project economics.
  • Utilize process simulation and modelling tools to evaluate new and existing metallurgical operations.

Project Delivery and Consulting

  • Manage and participate in scoping studies, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, and due diligence audits as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Prepare technical proposals and cost estimates for consulting assignments.
  • Prepare interim and final technical reports for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage project budgets and provide billing information for invoicing purposes.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with established technical, commercial, and safety requirements.

Pilot Plant & Testwork Programs

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute pilot plant programs, including risk assessments, technical protocols, sample planning, and technical training.
  • Interpret laboratory and pilot plant test results and provide recommendations to clients.
  • Assist clients in the development and execution of metallurgical testwork programs.


Operational Support

  • Provide technical support to operating plants and project sites.
  • Lead process optimization, debottlenecking, and troubleshooting initiatives to improve plant performance.
  • Identify practical solutions to operational challenges and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Business Development & Mentorship

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities and support the growth of the Mineral Processing Group.
  • Promote XPS expertise within the mineral processing sector through client engagement and industry participation.
  • Share technical expertise and mentor team members to support professional development and knowledge growth.
  • Develop innovative solutions while demonstrating an entrepreneurial mindset.

What We're Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in mineral processing.
  • Experience within the mining industry is considered an asset.
  • Strong technical knowledge of concentrator plants and mineral processing operations.
  • Operations and consulting experience are considered strong assets.
