The role in a nutshell
As a Technical Representative (Chemical Handling and Risk Management Subject Matter Expert), you will work with the other members of the Technical team to provide technical and risk management of NorFalco’s sulfuric acid distribution operations including customers, Glencore production sites, terminals, truck & rail carriers and vessel operators, tank car fleet design and NorFalco Emergency Response network. Previous exposure to operations with sulfuric acid is a definite requirement for this role.
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Conduct on-site technical and risk management assessments of NorFalco customers, service providers and Glencore plants;
- Address both small and large groups from shop floor personnel to senior management to provide sulfuric acid specific training and other technical support;
- Monitor and ensure company awareness of relevant safety and technical regulations and requirements at provincial/state, federal and international levels related to these activities;
- Be aware of acid business and commercial needs and assist in obtaining new customers and maintaining existing ones. Work closely with commercial representatives;
- Organize and host Technical and Safety seminars with large groups of NorFalco customers and service providers, ranging from operations personnel to senior executives;
- Manage innovations in design and maintenance to ensure NorFalco’s tank car fleet is the safest and best fleet in the sulfuric acid industry;
- Manage the accident reporting and investigation process for incidents involving NorFalco’s distribution business;
- As part of the NorFalco emergency response system, represent NorFalco’s interests related to product spills, injuries or other potential incidents and liaise with environmental and emergency contractors, carriers and government agencies;
- Provide emergency support in the event a distribution accident occurs which requires immediate NorFalco oversight;
- Understand and analyze transportation and distribution risks and hazards using qualitative and quantitative methodologies;
- Ensure NorFalco alignment with corporate HSEC & Human rights policies and manage external and internal or other HSEC, Human Rights and Security verifications and audits when they occur.
Do you have what it takes?
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, or any other related Technical Degree;
- Technical and operating experience in a chemical plant, ideally in sulfuric acid;
- Significant experience in safety and risk management training;
- Solid knowledge of quality control and analytical methods;
- Proficient in expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both in writing and speaking
- Organized, able to communicate effectively with different audiences and develop and maintain relationships;
- Flexible and self-motivated;
- Demonstrated capability to collaborate with others as well as to work on individual tasks efficiently.
Language: English (advanced). Knowledge of French is beneficial.
Travel: Extensive travel (40-50%) within the US and Canada will be required for meetings with customers and other stakeholders. You must be flexible and able to adapt to unplanned travel or work requirements that occur after hours or over the weekends. International travel may also be required.
Other information: Multiple locations in a large city in the eastern half of the US or Canada can be considered.
