The role in a nutshell
In this role, you act as a key partner in leading a multidisciplinary team of Operations and HSEC professionals. You will work closely with operations managers, HSEC & Site teams ensuring compliance with regulatory and Glencore requirements. Whether you're guiding an operations request, supporting compliance activities, or coaching teams in best practices, your focus is always on helping people stay safe and making informed decisions. With occasional site visits and a hands-on approach, you turn plans into action and data into insights that matter.
More specifically, you will be expected to:
- Budget development during annual Life of Asset (LoA) planning and cost management of Legacy Asset operating costs.
- Work closely with HSEC department to ensure the effective implementation of, and adherence to, Glencore and regulatory HSEC requirements across the portfolio of assets.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the effective delivery of capital projects and effective asset management.
- Act as the Dam Owner for the portfolio of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and Water Dams, in alignment with the Glencore Tailings and Dam Standard and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
- Visit sites to evaluate how effectively risks are controlled.
- Participate in external stakeholder and rightsholder engagement as, and when, required.
- Provide coaching and training on leadership and team development.
- Embed risk management systems in operational processes.
- Track outcomes of audits, inspections, and investigations and ensure timely resolution of any deficiencies.
- Assist with the development of Management Plans, Risk Reviews, Life of Asset planning.
- Ensure operations teams receive the relevant training and development to effectively conduct their roles.
Do you have what it takes?
- Undergraduate and/or Graduate Degree in a relevant field from a recognized university
- Minimum 15 years of related multi-discipline and management experience in Operations in mining or another industrial operating environment.
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication skills with a proven ability to work effectively with a geographically diverse portfolio spread across multiple time zones.
- Management experience in an industrial operation environment.
- A team player with strong collaboration and leadership skills.
- Proven budgeting and cost management experience
- Analytical, strategic and results oriented.
- Fluent English (written & spoken) required, French language skills a strong asset
- Willingness to travel, often to remote locations within North America.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Known for a positive mindset and strong interpersonal skills that support relationship-building.
Travel: You will be required to travel to the different sites approximately 30-40% of the time and work with colleagues located in different time zones on a regular basis.
Language: Advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory. The knowledge of French is beneficial.
Location: Corporate office in Toronto when not travelling to sites.
