In this role you will be responsible for:
• Legal Appointment (MHSA 12.1):
Fulfil duties as per the Mine Health and Safety Act, ensuring compliance with all occupational health and hygiene regulations and standards.
• Occupational Hygiene Programme Management:
Lead, implement, and maintain a comprehensive hygiene programme, including hazard identification, risk assessments, and exposure monitoring (dust, noise, heat, chemicals, etc.).
• Sampling and Monitoring:
Oversee, implement and execute all occupational hygiene sampling strategies, execution, and data analysis to ensure accurate exposure profiling and regulatory compliance.
• Health Risk Management:
Interpret results, identify trends, and implement controls to prevent occupational diseases and ensure a healthy workforce.
• Clinic Management:
Take full responsibility for the Rhovan Clinic, ensuring effective primary healthcare services, medical surveillance, and compliance with relevant health standards. In addition act as primary point of contact for Occupational Medical Practitioner.
• Contractor and Service Oversight:
Manage hygiene-related service providers, including deep cleaning and sanitation services, ensuring quality delivery and adherence to standards.
• Emergency Medical Services (EMS):
Oversee emergency medical response capability on site, ensuring readiness, compliance, and integration with site emergency systems.
• Reporting and Governance:
Ensure accurate reporting to management and regulatory bodies, maintaining high standards of record keeping and audit readiness.
• Leadership and Culture:
Drive awareness and engagement on occupational health risks, promoting a proactive health culture across all levels of the operation.
About you:
• Degree in Occupational Hygiene / Disaster and Safety Management
• Advanced Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in mining industry, including 3 years junior management experience
• Medically fit to perform work at a mine
• Planning and coordination ability
• Good communication and reporting skills
• Leadership and people management skills
• Computer literacy
