Internal – Western Smelters

 

In this role you will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Leading, coordinating, and optimising all engineering and maintenance activities for Rustenburg Smelter during the care and maintenance period.
  • Managing the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and civil infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations.
  • Implementing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for all plant assets and infrastructure.
  • Overseeing and managing projects, breakdowns and shutdown maintenance to minimise downtime and maintain asset integrity.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory, legal, OEM, and company safety and engineering standards, including the OHS Act, Glencore Fatal Hazard Protocols, and SafeWork 2.0.
  • Leading a multi-disciplinary team including supervisors, artisans, and contractors; ensuring effective team supervision, development, and performance management.
  • Managing maintenance systems (CMMS, SAP or similar), optimising team workflow, and planning maintenance schedules.
  • Conducting and supporting, investigations, risk assessments, root cause analysis, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Supporting plant optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives, including energy efficiency, cost control, and equipment life extension.
  • Maintaining and managing asset documentation, compliance records, and safety data.
  • Promoting and supporting a safety-first culture in all engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Managing cost (OPEX and CAPEX)

 
About you:

  • National Diploma or BTech / BEng / BSc in Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering (essential).
  • GCC Factories (essential).
  • 8–10 years’ experience in engineering/maintenance within heavy industry, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role (preferably in smelting or metallurgical plants).
  • Excellent technical knowledge of smelting operations and related equipment.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and people management skills.
  • Project management, budgeting, and analytical skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety, engineering, and statutory regulations.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Driver’s license and own transport required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing operational requirements.
