As a Financial Operations Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the Financial Operations Manager in delivering a timely, accurate and complete end-to-end settlements process across the Trading Desks within our Oil division.
A significant focus of the role will be settlement query resolution, brokerage settlements, reporting and analysis, process improvement and operational controls.
This role is suited to an individual who is naturally analytical, inquisitive and solutions focused. You will be expected to go beyond processing transactions by understanding the underlying trade and settlement flows, investigating exceptions, resolving complex queries and identifying the root cause of issues.

You will work across multiple teams and systems and will need to be comfortable navigating incomplete or unfamiliar information.
The main tasks and responsibilities include:

Take ownership of settlement queries and operational issues from identification through to resolution, escalating appropriately where required.

Investigate exceptions and discrepancies by reviewing transactions, system data, supporting documentation and the wider trade and settlement flow to determine the underlying cause.

Proactively engage with Operations, Treasury, Risk Management, Trading, Finance and other relevant stakeholders to obtain information and resolve issues.

Develop a strong understanding of the end-to-end settlement lifecycle and consider the wider operational and financial impact of actions and decisions.

Manage and investigate brokerage settlements, including detailed system investigation, trade research, reconciliation and resolution of discrepancies.

Maintain a high level of accuracy while working through complex, high-volume and at times ambiguous settlement scenarios.

Monitor and resolve queries received from counterparties and other external and internal stakeholders, ensuring appropriate follow-up through to completion.

Build effective internal and external relationships to support information flow and timely resolution of settlement issues.

Produce regular operational and management reports and provide meaningful analysis and commentary.

Analyse outstanding items, trends, ageing, exceptions and recurring issues to understand challenges and solutions.

Support the Financial Operations Manager in reviewing and updating policies, procedures and controls when processes, systems or business requirements change.

Proactively identify when existing procedures no longer accurately reflect operational requirements and assist in documenting improved ways of working.

Ensure settlement, counterparty and billing activities remain aligned with company policies, internal controls and business requirements.

Meet agreed KPIs and performance targets while maintaining a strong focus on quality, completeness and resolution.

Support the Financial Operations Manager with periodic and ad hoc analysis, management reporting and operational investigations.

Perform additional duties as required in a dynamic and evolving operational environment.
Qualifications and requirements

A relevant tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Commerce or a related analytical discipline.

Experience within settlements, financial operations, supply chain, commodity trading, logistics, reconciliation, brokerage, accounting or another operationally analytical environment would be advantageous.

Commodity trading experience is beneficial but not essential where the candidate demonstrates strong analytical ability, curiosity and the capacity to understand complex processes quickly.

Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets, reconciliations and operational reports.

Take ownership, thinks analytically and is naturally driven to understand and resolve issues.

Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a genuine desire to understand how processes work from end to end.
