Our Nickel Department is looking for an experienced geologist/mining engineer to support and expand our Business Development activities across a diverse range of geographies and growth opportunities.

The selected candidate will evaluate a wide range of opportunities, including frequent in-country site visits, technical assessments, and the development of productive relationships with local stakeholders and project developers. You will also propose strategies and action plans to ensure selected attractive assets can be developed from exploration stage to production. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the Nickel Marketing Department growth initiatives and support the development of Glencore’s global marketing presence.

We are looking for someone with solid technical (geology / mining) background including operational experience in nickel exploration and/or mining activities, ability to take initiatives and propose pragmatic actions plans to develop a portfolio of opportunities on the ground. Effective analytical skills, managing multiple responsibilities from remote locations, practical problem-solving approach, teamwork and good communication skills are vital for success in this role. The successful candidate would also enjoy working in a diverse range of fields and office locations. 

In this role you will:

  • Contribute to the identification of potential growth opportunities from early-stage exploration projects to advanced construction and operational mining operations.

  • Have a multi-country approach to support the business, which will initially include be involved and active in Indonesia, Guatemala, Solomon Island and the Philippines.

  • Develop in-country relationships to identify opportunities and access available data to conduct a realistic multi-criteria evaluation and ranking of prospective assets with a view to identify most promising business opportunities.

  • Propose realistic and operational action plans to transform prospective opportunities into operational business activities

  • Coordinate and supervise on the ground / in-country agreed action plans, in view to preserve Glencore’s interest while ensuring projects are being delivered according to plan and budget

  • When involved in a project, ensure activities are being conducted in accordance with the agreed project scope and relevant Health, Environment, Safety and Community (HSEC) commitments 

  • Prepare and submit status/technical reports as required

Qualifications and requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mining engineering, Geology, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related field.

  • 6–10 years relevant experience in mining geology/mining engineering with operational or exploration exposure, resource project evaluation, or investment banking/project finance focused on metals and mining.

  • Minimum ~3 years specific nickel geology/mining exposure preferred for technical candidates.

  • Well-developed analytical and data interpretation skills.

  • Ability to synthesise technical, operational, and commercial datasets into actionable business insights.

  • Practical understanding of transaction lifecycle and execution-focused attitude.

  • Ability and willingness to travel globally at short notice and undertake extended in‑country visits.

  • Eligible to work in the designated location

The ideal candidate is

  • Experience across multiple jurisdictions and in emerging market environments.

  • English required, Spanish language skills is a plus.  

  • Commercial acumen, strategic thinking and stakeholder management experience.

  • Familiarity with HESC requirements and with cross-cultural teams.

  • Prior exposure to commodity markets (Nickel) and basic market knowledge.
