As the Regional Category Manager at Copper Africa, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our strategic sourcing endeavors by optimising the procurement and management of commodities within the [HME & Mining] category. Your primary focus will be on value delivery and fostering operational excellence in category procurement processes.
OBJECTIVES

Support the development and execution of comprehensive sourcing strategies aligned with Copper Africa's business plan, focusing on cost optimisation, profitability targets, and shareholder value creation.

Develop, implement, and manage differentiated category-specific sourcing strategies, including detailed cost modelling, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), spend analysis, and proactive risk mitigation strategies.

Translate Copper Africa's strategic objectives into actionable sourcing initiatives.

Leverage your strong commercial acumen to negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers, securing favorable terms, ensuring compliance, and maximizing performance.

Build and maintain active catalogues for each contract source.

Support with the SRM programme to drive strategic value with our key suppliers.

Continuously analyse data and market trends to identify and drive cost savings to optimise purchasing decisions and drive value creation.

Using Cross-Functional Teams from the business and specifically the site operations to ensure ownership and buy-in to our sourcing recommendations.

Conduct in-depth market research and leverage your technical expertise to identify cost-effective source opportunities across global markets, adhering to local procurement mandates.

Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team, encouraging knowledge sharing and professional development.

Using the balanced scorecard methodology to track and record all benefits as per our Value Delivery Policy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Degree in Engineering, Finance, Law, Business Management, or Commerce (preferably with a technical focus).

A Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Masters in Business Leadership (MBL) is preferable with MCIPS certification considered advantageous.
WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
-
Minimum 10 years of experience in Supply Chain Management, within Mining, Oil and Gas, or Heavy Industry.

Lean Six-Sigma experience advantageous.

Proficient in data analysis tools and Microsoft Office Suite, with additional expertise in relevant technical software preferred.

Advanced knowledge of category strategy, cost reduction initiatives, supplier selection, purchasing, and contract management with a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) approach.

Proven track record in negotiation, contract development, and execution.

Expertise in building and managing strategic partnerships with suppliers, including Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) and Supplier Performance Management (SPM).

Strong ability to develop business cases, conduct investment appraisals, and understand the commercial implications of decisions.

Proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of procurement risks.

Integrating community development and supplier diversity into procurement strategies.

Building strong relationships and effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders.
