Traffic – Copper

We are seeking a Traffic who will be responsible for supporting the logistics and execution of commodity shipments, ensuring smooth coordination between suppliers, buyers, shipping agents, customs authorities, and internal departments. The role involves managing documentation, tracking shipments, handling operational challenges, and ensuring timely delivery of commodities while complying with all regulations and contractual terms. The Traffic Assistant will report into the Operations Manager.

The main tasks and responsibilities include.

  • Plan and coordinate commodity shipments for timely execution.
  • Liaise with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs agents, and internal teams.
  • Monitor shipment schedules, address delays, and update stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal teams for laytime dispute resolution and ensure accurate processing of payments and receivables by the Traffic team.
  • Prepare, review, and manage shipping documents, including Bills of Lading, invoices, packing lists, certificates, and customs paperwork.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with trade regulations and company policies in collaboration with legal and compliance teams on regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a central point of contact for suppliers, customers, transport providers, and warehouses.
  • Work with the finance team on invoicing, payments, and letters of credit.
  • Draft, evaluate, negotiate, and execute contracts as per Head Office guidance and serve as the primary contact for contract matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of transactions, shipments, and communications.
  • Generate reports on shipment performance, costs, and operational issues.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Tertiary Qualification, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, or a related field; MBA is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in contract negotiation, administration, logistics, shipping, or traffic operations, ideally within a commodity trading company or similar industry.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and logistics/ERP management systems/SAP.
  • Strong understanding of international trade, shipping procedures, and logistics, including Incoterms, trade finance (LCs, bank guarantees), and customs regulations.
  • Knowledge of shipping, commodity trading, and port management.
