 A rewarding opportunity for a Project Engineer/Metallurgist in Pyrometallurgy to provide high quality consulting services to our clients in high-temperature metallurgical processes, based in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

The group is well equipped to address metallurgical needs through:



On-site plant support, and pyrometallurgical test work at both laboratory and pilot plant scales. Services are offered at a competitive price-to-quality ratio. We can reduce risk and add value to our client’s projects or operations through:

  • On-site plant support for smelters and refineries, e.g. emission abatement strategies (SO2 etc.), raising throughput capacity, impurity tolerance levels and improving product/metal quality, refractory performance, metallurgical audits, benchmarking, and de-bottlenecking.
  • Laboratory and/or pilot scale test work incorporating atmospheric or pressure leaching, fluid bed roasting or smelting, and associated unit operations, to recover base metals from sulphide or oxide ores.
  • Flow sheet and process design criteria development for new projects or plant expansions.
  • Process simulation/modelling for new or existing metallurgical plants, using Factsage, Metsim, ARENA, COMSOL for venture style analysis studies for business/custom feed opportunities.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

The primary functions of the Project Engineer/Metallurgist are to:

  • Provide technical solutions and guidance to the non-ferrous metallurgical industry
  • Direct, schedule and supervise technicians and technologists in laboratory, sample preparation, and pilot plant environments
  • Participate in large scale pilot plants and interpreting results under the supervisor of a Senior Metallurgist and/or Project Manager
  • Be an active member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Bid preparation for complex projects
  • Direct client interaction and communication
  • Compiling and analyzing metallurgical data, verify and report results
  • Write final technical reports for projects under management
  • Liaising with senior project members regarding ongoing test programmes
  • Safety and environmental compliance
  • Travel may be required to client sites
  • May be assigned special or ad hoc projects

 Education/Experience/Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in metallurgical, chemical engineering or related degree and/or related experience
  • Ability to register as a professional engineer in Canada
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience in pyrometallurgy in base, precious or specialized metals in a laboratory or operations in process plants and testwork services
  • Experience in high-temperature process simulation or design, with a strong desire to keep up to date with design tools
  • Familiarity with any or all of: Factsage®, Metsim®, ARENA®, COMSOL®
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all health and safety policies and procedures
  • An acute business sense and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Excellent problem solving, time management and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite or equivalent products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others as well as work independently

Salary range: $92,000 - $118,000, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus, comprehensive benefits, and pension
