Our Toronto based team is responsible for site closure execution and the operation of our North American Legacy Assets, overseeing Glencore’s 100-year legacy of mining, and associated post-closure assets in North America.  If you’re passionate about mining and the environment and want to work with purpose each day to deliver accurate and efficient financial services for a group of committed individuals, we should talk.

 

Summer Student – NACS Finance (May to August 2026)

The successful candidate will join our head office team in Toronto, ON reporting to the Financial Controller.  At the conclusion of this placement the successful candidate will have gained a unique perspective on how to mine sustainably by starting with the end in mind.  On a rotational basis, they will have hands-on experience with the various financial aspects of mine closure including: accounting/financial reporting, finance systems, budgeting, procurement and project controls management. The candidate will leave with a deeper understanding of how financial reporting and analysis shape business decisions, drive efficiencies, and create positive impacts for communities and the environment.

 

Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting
    • Involved in monthly financial reporting process, including preparing journal entries, performing bank reconciliations and analysis on various accounts.
    • Assist with financial presentations for senior management or government regulators as required.
  • Financial Analysis & Budgeting
    • Assist with preparation of variance analysis and review of data for monthly report for senior management.
    • Involvement in annual budgeting cycle and working with budgeting software (IDU), including collection and analysis of budget submissions and assistance in updating and reviewing data for budget presentations.
  • Project Controls
    • Assist project controller in monthly financial and performance analysis of closure projects.
    • Involved in coordinating with project managers to collect and review data for annual budget and monthly forecast updates.
  • Procurement
    • Assist in preparation and analysis of procurement monthly presentation and report.
    • Participate in onboarding of new vendors and vetting of legacy suppliers.

 

Qualifications

  • University or College Student enrolled in a Post-Secondary program in the field of Business, Accounting or Finance;
  • Desire to pursue a career in the mining industry;
  • A critical and analytical thinker;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning and time management skills;
  • Relevant work, co-op or research experience, is considered an asset;
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint capabilities.
