Job Description

About the Role

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, a Short Term (Truck and Shovel) Mining Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering mine plans, designs, and schedules that support the operation's long-term objectives. You will be responsible for planning across an entire pit, including developing production schedules, dig and dump designs, infrastructure layouts, and rehabilitation and reshape plans, while working closely with operations to ensure successful execution.

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams—including Drill & Blast, Truck & Shovel, Dragline, Rehabilitation, and Services—you will contribute to the safe and efficient delivery of mine plans and support operational performance.

As part of the broader Technical Services team, you will also have the opportunity to refine and optimise mine plans from concept through to implementation. You will be involved in continuous improvement initiatives, project work, and planning activities that drive operational excellence and support the site's long-term strategy.

This diverse and collaborative environment provides excellent opportunities for professional growth, skill development, and career progression.

About the Candidate

The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mining/Civil or related field)
  • Proficiency in Mine Design and Scheduling packages (such as Vulcan, Deswik, Spry or similar)
  • Minimum of two years relevant experience

What We Offer

At Hail Creek Open Cut, we are committed to creating an environment where our people feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

In return, we offer:

  • Monday to Friday roster with the ability to apply for a Nine-Day Fortnight Compressed Work Arrangement.
  • Direct employment with Glencore.
  • Competitive remuneration package with lifestyle benefits.
  • Annual short-term performance bonus.
  • Above-award annual leave entitlement.
  • Access to the Coal Mining Industry Long Service Leave Scheme.
  • Education Assistance opportunities to support further study and professional development.
  • Ongoing career development and advancement opportunities within a global mining organisation.

This role is a wonderful opportunity for you no matter your circumstance. You will have the option to either live locally in one of the communities that surround our operation or stay on site in our amazing village. We are only a one and quarter hour drive from the beautiful Mackay hinterland and a two- and half-hour drive from Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands and have a diverse group of people at our operation commuting from multiple locations in Queensland such as Rockhampton and Townsville, to name a few. Commercial Flight Support is available per written request for senior staff members and above, for flights from Mackay (MKY) to Brisbane (BNE) return.

Our people think and act like entrepreneurs.  We have built a culture that rewards dedicated people with a can-do spirit, who take responsibility, and who have the drive to be leaders in their field.  If you are caring, responsive, intuitive, and driven, and can operate within a dynamic environment, this is your chance to become part of a culture that empowers people and drives progression.
