United Wambo Joint Venture (UWJV) is an open-cut coal mine located 16 kilometres west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. UWJV is a 50:50 joint venture between United Collieries (Glencore and MEU) and Wambo Coal (Peabody).

Job Description

UWJV commenced operation in 2020 and we are forecast to produce up to 10 million tonnes per annum of run of mine (ROM) thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal until 2042.

Reporting to the Health, Safety & Training Manager, the Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and guidelines in line with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Further responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in HSEC audits, Safety Interactions, Planned Task Observations and demonstrate Visible Leadership in accordance with the sites HSEC Strategies and Objectives

  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including fire, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and other critical incidents

  • Lead thorough investigations into safety incidents and near misses to determine root causes. Analysis incident data to identify trends and recommend preventive measures

  • Maintain and encourage productive and harmonious relationships with other Departments

  • Assist with hazard identification and Fatal Risk controls in the workplace

  • Implement action plans with input from the team for the treatment of risks

About you:

  • Qualifications in Work Health & Safety

  • Thorough understanding of NSW legislation relevant to Work Health & Safety

  • Demonstrated experience implementing and overseeing workplace safety management systems

  • Able to use analytical skills to reason through problems and translate creative ideas into workplace improvements

  • Demonstrated experience navigating complex issues and competing priorities

  • Ability to lead workplace incident investigations - ICAM

  • Mining industry experience will be highly regarded
