Role definition
As a key member of Glencore Coal Assets Australia’s Finance Governance and Controls (FGC) team, you will support our efforts in further developing and embedding the financial risk management framework and practices. This role focuses on executing, assessing and advising on risks and assurance activities related to business controls, IT systems and processes, with responsibilities supporting both second-line and first-line risk functions.
Key responsibilities / accountabilities
As our subject matter expert on financial risk management and internal controls you will guide the organisation in enhancing our control environment, striving to deliver a balanced governance model. Trusted to provide pragmatic guidance to the business to ensure the internal controls environment is fit-for-purpose, key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing a practicable ICFR control environment supporting the GCAA operating sites achieve operational and commercial objectives.
- Support operational and commercial leaders meet internal control requirements through the provision of financial insights and commercial process recommendations.
- Identify financial risks, developing and implementing mitigation strategies to strengthen internal controls.
- Lead the continued enhancement of financial processes and governance frameworks.
- Deliver the annual Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) work plan, completing key activities and processes, such as control validation and testing, in accordance with the Glencore Group FGC timetable.
- Provide financial governance and control oversight across internal commercial and financial activities.
- Monitor compliance with financial policies and internal control requirements.
- Support the management attestation of control effectiveness process, including monitoring and validating the timely and effective remediation of control deficiencies.
- Conduct training on business process management and internal control principles.
- Manage and mentor the FGC Accountant to enforce control processes and the timely reporting of ICFR program outcomes.
- Manage ad-hoc projects as assigned.

- Ability to produce high quality deliverables that can support conclusions reached with facts and withstand scrutiny.
- Strong grasp of regulatory environment with the ability to review and summarise complex information.

- Team player, experienced in working collaboratively and in an agile manner.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge and experience
- 10+ years of experience with a focus on financial risk management and internal controls, and/or assurance.
- Experience in first, second or third line risk (internal) and External Audit engagements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce.
- Professional certifications such as CA/CPA are essential.
- Experience in the SOx and/or other equivalent regulatory compliance frameworks will be highly regarded.
- Hands on risk and internal controls experience including design and implementation of internal controls.
