Glencore’s purpose is to responsibly source the commodities that advance everyday life. At Oaky Creek Coal, we contribute to this purpose by responsibly producing and supplying high-quality export coking coal.
Our values — safety, integrity, responsibility, openness, simplicity and entrepreneurialism — guide how we work, how we lead and how we make decisions. They define what it means to be part of Glencore, regardless of role or location.
We know it is our people who make this possible. Our culture promotes teamwork, personal ownership and professionalism, and recognises individuals who bring a practical mindset, take responsibility and strive to lead in their field. We expect a lot — and we invest in people who do the same.
Oaky North is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Training Manager to join the site leadership team and lead the health, safety and training capability across Oaky Creek underground, the CHPP and surface operations.
This role will suit someone who understands mining — someone who knows that sustainable safety performance is built through relationships, credibility, consistency and practical leadership in the field.,
Working alongside operational leaders, you will strengthen capability, challenge thinking where required, and ensure systems, behaviours and culture align to support safe, reliable production outcomes.
The Role
Reporting to the Site General Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary function responsible for safety, training, occupational health and hygiene, injury management, compliance, assurance and document control.
Your focus will include:

- Partnering with operational leaders to strengthen safety leadership, behavioural safety and cultural improvement initiatives
- Providing technical leadership across risk management, legislative compliance, performance metrics and governance
- Ensuring effective implementation and ongoing integrity of health and safety systems
- Supporting and strengthening the annual Health, Safety and Training Plan
- Maintaining a visible, credible and consistent presence across the operation
About You
You are an experienced mining leader who combines technical depth with sound judgement and practical application. You are comfortable challenging constructively, making decisions and holding standards — while building trust across crews and leadership teams.
You will bring:
- Senior leadership experience within coal mining
- Demonstrated success leading health, safety and/or training functions in an operational environment
- Strong technical understanding of legislation, risk management and safety systems
- A hands-on, pragmatic approach with a strong field orientation
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety (or related discipline)
- Clear communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
- Underground experience is desirable but not essential
