Rolleston Open Cut is a 16Mtpa thermal coal mine located in the southern Bowen Basin in Central Queensland.  With a long life of mine and low operating costs, the mine has a bright outlook.  Since 2005, we have grown to become one of the largest surface mines in Australia, whilst continuing to foster a culture underpinned by safety, achievement, flexibility and teamwork to improve the skills of each and every person on the mine site every day.  We are a hands-on team who all work together to meet our objectives.  No job or day is the same with us, and we never miss an opportunity to share, learn and improve.

Glencore is committed to providing an environment that adheres to the Respect at Work Legislation.

Job Description

About the Role

We're looking for someone to drive how we improve at Rolleston — not just run projects, but build the systems, reporting, and habits that make improvement stick. You'll work across every department on site, almost daily, partnering with operators through to senior leaders and external partners to deliver real operational gains. This role reports to the Senior Site Executive and has genuine scope to shape how we work.

  • Provide visible leadership and coaching on improvement, standard work, and disciplined execution across Mining.

  • Identify, scope and deliver site improvement projects (end-to-end): problem definition, business case/AFE support, stakeholder alignment, execution, and benefits tracking.

  • Facilitate workshops and continuous improvement activities with operators, supervisors, SSEs, Tech Services and Maintenance to remove waste and lift performance.

  • Drive data-led decision making by building and maintaining operational reporting and analytics (e.g., production performance, delays, events, quality and compliance).

  • Lead digitisation of key frontline processes (e.g., inspections/prestarts, defect capture, automated reporting and workflow) with strong change management and "ease-of-use" focus.

  • Partner with OT/IT and vendors to implement site technology safely and reliably (air-gapped/OT constraints, cyber considerations, uptime, support models).

  • Own governance for improvement work: scope control, risk/issue management, scheduling, communications, and operational readiness.

  • Manage budgets and resources in your area, monitor costs, and ensure benefits are realised (not just delivered).

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners (OEMs, software vendors, integrators).

  • Ensure all initiatives align with site safety systems, legislative requirements, and Glencore standards (HSE, risk, change control).

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience leading improvement and/or operational performance in mining, heavy industry, or a similar high-risk environment.

  • Strong stakeholder skills—able to influence across Production, Maintenance, HSE, Tech Services, OT/IT and vendors.

  • Hands-on digital and data capability, including:

    • Power BI (building reports, data modelling, dashboards)

    • SQL (writing queries, basic data modelling)

    • Working with operational systems/data sources (fleet/dispatch, maintenance, events, telemetry)

  • Understanding of OT/IT separation and operational technology constraints (air-gapped networks, cyber considerations, uptime requirements).

  • Experience implementing or supporting technology/process change (training, comms, adoption, support models).

  • Strong written and verbal communication—clear updates, simple definitions, and decision-ready reporting.

  • Ability to perform under pressure and respond to operational needs, including outside normal hours when required.

  • Personal attributes we value: integrity, accountability, decisiveness, respect for others, and a drive to develop people.

Qualifications (desirable):

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (Engineering, Business, Data/IT, Science) or equivalent operational experience.

  • Project management capability (formal qualification beneficial).

  • Continuous improvement capability (Lean/Six Sigma exposure beneficial).
