Category Lead, Operational Services

Lead procurement strategy. Drive value. Influence operational success.

At Glencore, procurement is much more than sourcing goods and services. It is a strategic function that enables our operations to perform safely, efficiently and competitively.

We are currently seeking a Category Lead, Operational Services to join our North American procurement team. In this highly visible role, you will provide strategic leadership across several of Glencore's mining and metallurgical operations, including the Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, Raglan Mine, Horne Smelter, CCR Copper Refinery, and CEZinc Refinery.

Managing a portfolio of approximately $200M annually, you will develop and execute category strategies, lead complex sourcing initiatives, negotiate high-value contracts, and build strong partnerships with key stakeholders and suppliers. Your work will directly contribute to operational performance, cost optimization, risk mitigation, and long-term value creation across the business.

Reporting to the Senior Category Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping procurement decisions and delivering strategic outcomes that support Glencore's operational and commercial objectives.

What you'll be responsible for

As a trusted procurement leader, you will:

  • Develop and execute category and sourcing strategies aligned with operational priorities, business objectives, budgets, schedules, technical requirements and risk profiles.
  • Provide strategic procurement guidance and commercial expertise to operational leaders across multiple sites.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing and contracting activities, including market analysis, supplier identification, tendering, evaluation, negotiations, contract award and supplier performance management.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize costs, improve supplier performance and generate sustainable value across your portfolio.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for your assigned category, leveraging market intelligence and industry best practices to drive informed decisions.
  • Collaborate with global procurement teams to identify and implement strategic sourcing opportunities across Glencore operations.
  • Negotiate and manage complex contracts for operational services and supplies while securing competitive commercial terms and protecting the company's interests.
  • Monitor supplier, commercial and supply-chain performance, ensuring compliance with quality, cost, schedule and delivery expectations.
  • Assess and mitigate commercial, operational and supply-chain risks through proactive planning and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance requirements, procurement policies, Delegation of Authority guidelines, and applicable legal and regulatory standards.
  • Provide commercial insights, procurement reporting and strategic recommendations to senior leadership teams.

What we're looking for

We're seeking a strategic and results-driven procurement professional who thrives in a complex operating environment and enjoys influencing key business decisions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Commerce, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, contract management, materials management or project procurement, ideally within mining, metals, heavy industry, construction or similarly complex industries.
  • Proven experience supporting major capital projects, including procurement strategy development, competitive tendering, supplier evaluation, contract negotiations and contract administration.
  • Strong supply-chain knowledge, including logistics, expediting, inspections, customs, transportation, inventory planning and supply-chain risk management.
  • Experience working with ERP and digital procurement platforms, preferably SAP, Coupa and electronic tendering systems.
  • Demonstrated financial and commercial acumen, including budget management, capital expenditure oversight and performance measurement.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and commercial capabilities.
  • Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Effective communicator capable of working across operational, technical and executive-level teams.
  • Pragmatic, collaborative and adaptable professional with sound judgment and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Committed to Glencore's values and to the highest standards of health, safety, environmental stewardship and ethical business practices.
