The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

The position will be based in Falconbridge, Greater Sudbury, Ontario.

This is a full-time, permanent, staff position.

Range of Pay: $148,000 to $156,000 plus annual variable compensation bonus

Work location is not accessible by public transportation.

Duties and Accountabilities

Reporting to Superintendent Smelter and Mill Engineering, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible and accountable for the assessment, design, planning, cost estimates and control, document control, project management, construction, commissioning and close-out of any work requiring the application of engineering principles within a specific engineering discipline. First level of direct and sustained supervision of other professional engineers or first level of full specialization. The incumbent provides leadership and direction to the professional and technical staff at the site. Direct reports may include seconded engineers, project leads, designers, draftspersons, project support staff and engineering students.

Education and Skills

This position requires an individual with a university degree in an Engineering discipline and will have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in an industrial, process-based environment, and a Registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.

The incumbent must have strong communication and negotiation skills, both oral and written for communication of technical and professional information, strong leadership and the ability to foster change within the operation.  The incumbent has the authority to make professional engineering decisions on an independent basis while managing approximately 15 to 25+ (medium to high complexity) multi-discipline projects annually. The incumbent may stamp approximately 50 to 500 drawings annually.
