In this role you will be responsible for:
- Lead and manage the Instrumentation team to achieve operational, maintenance and reliability targets
- Provide technical leadership and governance for all plant instrumentation, PLC, SCADA and control systems
- Ensure the safe and reliable installation, maintenance and optimisation of instrumentation and control infrastructure across the plant
- Drive plant reliability, equipment availability and process optimisation initiatives
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for instrumentation assets
- Lead fault finding, root cause analysis and failure investigations relating to control and instrumentation systems
- Oversee shutdown planning, execution and post-shutdown performance reviews
- Manage instrumentation-related capital projects, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements, HSEC standards and company procedures
- Manage budgets, contractor performance, spare parts and SAP PM reporting for instrumentation department
- Provide leadership, coaching and development to the instrumentation team
- Participate in standby and provide senior technical support during plant breakdowns and critical incidents
About you:
- NQF7 or higher in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or related field
- Instrumentation Trade Test
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in industrial instrumentation, control systems and process optimisation within heavy industry, mining, smelting or metallurgical operations
- At least 3–5 years’ leadership / supervisory experience
- Extensive experience in PLC, SCADA, DCS programming, fault finding and development
- Strong project management and continuous improvement track record
- Experience with SAP PM, MES, MS Projects and advanced maintenance systems
- Strong leadership, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement capability
- ECSA registration will be highly advantageous
