In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Lead and manage the Instrumentation team to achieve operational, maintenance and reliability targets
  • Provide technical leadership and governance for all plant instrumentation, PLC, SCADA and control systems
  • Ensure the safe and reliable installation, maintenance and optimisation of instrumentation and control infrastructure across the plant
  • Drive plant reliability, equipment availability and process optimisation initiatives
  • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for instrumentation assets
  • Lead fault finding, root cause analysis and failure investigations relating to control and instrumentation systems
  • Oversee shutdown planning, execution and post-shutdown performance reviews
  • Manage instrumentation-related capital projects, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements, HSEC standards and company procedures
  • Manage budgets, contractor performance, spare parts and SAP PM reporting for instrumentation department
  • Provide leadership, coaching and development to the instrumentation team
  • Participate in standby and provide senior technical support during plant breakdowns and critical incidents

 

About you:

  • NQF7 or higher in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or related field
  • Instrumentation Trade Test
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in industrial instrumentation, control systems and process optimisation within heavy industry, mining, smelting or metallurgical operations
  • At least 3–5 years’ leadership / supervisory experience
  • Extensive experience in PLC, SCADA, DCS programming, fault finding and development
  • Strong project management and continuous improvement track record
  • Experience with SAP PM, MES, MS Projects and advanced maintenance systems
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement capability
  • ECSA registration will be highly advantageous
