In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Lead and manage the electrical engineering and maintenance function across the smelter operation
  • Provide technical leadership and governance for all medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) electrical systems
  • Ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of electrical reticulation, protection systems, transformers and power distribution networks
  • Drive electrical reliability, plant availability and power system stability
  • Develop and implement electrical maintenance strategies, including preventative and predictive maintenance programmes
  • Oversee shutdown planning, execution and electrical work integration
  • Conduct and approve electrical reticulation studies, protection coordination and emergency power supply strategies
  • Manage and optimise emergency power systems, generators and backup supply infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, engineering, safety and HSEC requirements, including electrical standards and regulations
  • Lead root cause analysis and failure investigations related to electrical systems and major breakdowns
  • Manage budgets, contractors, service providers and electrical CAPEX projects
  • Provide leadership, coaching and development to electrical engineering teams

 

About you:

  • Degree or National Diploma (NQF 6 or higher) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in heavy industry, mining, smelting or metallurgical operations
  • At least 3–5 years’ leadership experience in electrical engineering or maintenance teams
  • Strong experience in MV/LV systems, protection schemes, transformers and electrical reticulation
  • Proven experience in electrical system design, fault finding, protection coordination and power system studies
  • Strong project management and shutdown planning experience
  • GCC Factories will be highly advantageous
  • Experience with SAP PM and maintenance management systems
  • Strong knowledge of HSEC systems and electrical safety standards
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
