In this role you will be responsible for:
- Lead and manage the electrical engineering and maintenance function across the smelter operation
- Provide technical leadership and governance for all medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) electrical systems
- Ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of electrical reticulation, protection systems, transformers and power distribution networks
- Drive electrical reliability, plant availability and power system stability
- Develop and implement electrical maintenance strategies, including preventative and predictive maintenance programmes
- Oversee shutdown planning, execution and electrical work integration
- Conduct and approve electrical reticulation studies, protection coordination and emergency power supply strategies
- Manage and optimise emergency power systems, generators and backup supply infrastructure
- Ensure compliance with all statutory, engineering, safety and HSEC requirements, including electrical standards and regulations
- Lead root cause analysis and failure investigations related to electrical systems and major breakdowns
- Manage budgets, contractors, service providers and electrical CAPEX projects
- Provide leadership, coaching and development to electrical engineering teams
About you:
- Degree or National Diploma (NQF 6 or higher) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in heavy industry, mining, smelting or metallurgical operations
- At least 3–5 years’ leadership experience in electrical engineering or maintenance teams
- Strong experience in MV/LV systems, protection schemes, transformers and electrical reticulation
- Proven experience in electrical system design, fault finding, protection coordination and power system studies
- Strong project management and shutdown planning experience
- GCC Factories will be highly advantageous
- Experience with SAP PM and maintenance management systems
- Strong knowledge of HSEC systems and electrical safety standards
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
