About the role:    

Haul Truck Operators and Mine Operations Labourers are responsible for safely operating haul trucks to transport coal or rock, as well as providing operational support in an open pit coal mine. EVR provides structured internal training to support new employees and create opportunities for long-term career growth in the mining sector. 

Haul Truck Operators are hired as permanent employees across all our mine sites and receive a competitive compensation package that includes base earnings plus benefits.   

Schedule: 4x4 rotation consisting of 12-hour day and night shifts.

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies 
  • Operate haul trucks ranging from 180–400-ton capacity 
  • Perform mining related duties such as handling electrical cables, delivering supplies, and assisting with equipment and autonomous haulage support 
  • Work safely in seasonal outdoor conditions, including rain, fog, snow, winter temperatures, uneven terrain, and exposure to dust, noise, and vibration 
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, operators, and supervisors using two-way radios and onboard computer systems 
  • Conduct pre and post operational inspections and complete equipment reports 
  • Safely climb, access and exit equipment, and lift up to 50 lbs

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma, General Education Development, or five years related work experience  
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license, or equivalent, without learner’s restrictions   
  • Ability to stay on task and focused during long hours and in adverse weather conditions 
  • Ability to climb ladders/steps (up to ~3 m), sit for extended periods, perform frequent 3-point contact and lift/move up to 50 lbs  
  • Strong commitment to safety including personal safety and the safety of co-workers  

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience operating heavy or agricultural machinery (e.g., forklift, skid steer, loader, tractor, combine) is an asset 
  • Experience in hands-on, safety-focused work environments such as industrial, construction, farming, forestry, or other fast-paced, production-driven settings is an asset 
  • Experience using two-way radio communication and following structured procedures 
  • Basic computer literacy 

Work Location:

This position is based at our Elk Valley operations. Candidates must be able to reliably commute or relocate to the Sparwood, B.C. area. To support relocation, EVR offers several temporary housing resources: 

  • EVR rental units: Company-owned rental units available to new hires for short-term transition support (subject to availability) 
  • Elk Valley Lodge: Employees may have the option to rent a room at our Elk Valley Lodge in Elkford (subject to availability) 
  • Community rental list: EVR maintains a list of community-owned rental accommodations that we can provide to assist with your housing search

Base earnings reflected in salary range includes the hourly wage plus applicable shift premiums and will differ depending on location. It is calculated using a reasonably expected number of hours worked per year.
