In this role you will be responsible for:

• Support the Superintendent in implementing plant instrumentation and control strategies, standards and maintenance plans
• Provide technical engineering support for plant instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, DCS, industrial networks and associated control infrastructure
• Manage and support instrumentation personnel and contractors within the assigned area to achieve safety, quality, availability and cost targets
• Ensure the safe and reliable installation, commissioning, maintenance and optimisation of instrumentation and control systems
• Lead advanced fault finding, root cause analysis and failure-elimination activities, and ensure corrective actions are implemented
• Develop and review preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, job plans, equipment records and critical spares in SAP PM
• Monitor control-system and equipment performance and drive process optimisation, reliability and continuous improvement initiatives
• Plan and coordinate instrumentation work for shutdowns and major outages, including quality control, commissioning and close-out
• Develop technical scopes and specifications and coordinate the instrumentation aspects of capital projects, upgrades and plant modifications
• Maintain software backups, configuration control, technical documentation and plant change-management requirements
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements, HSEC standards and company procedures
• Participate in standby, provide second-line technical support during breakdowns, and coach and develop instrumentation team members

About you:

• National Diploma (NQF 6) or higher in Electrical Engineering (Light Current/Process Instrumentation), Electronic Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering
• Instrumentation Trade Test
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial instrumentation, control systems and process optimisation within heavy industry, mining, smelting or metallurgical operations
• At least three years’ supervisory or technical team-lead experience
• PLC, SCADA and DCS programming, development and fault-finding experience, Siemens PLC’s will be an added advantage
• Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, industrial communication networks, control-system configuration and plant interlocks
• Demonstrated project management, shutdown, commissioning and continuous improvement experience
• Computer literacy and practical experience with SAP PM, MES, MS Project, Excel and Outlook, supported by strong problem-solving and stakeholder-engagement skills
