About the role:
Reporting to the Manager, Water Operations, the Senior Engineer Supervisor, Engineering leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers and automation specialists, providing both day-to-day and strategic technical leadership across all Water Operations sites. The role is responsible for driving facility debottlenecking and optimization efforts, as well as supporting the startup of new treatment facilities.
Water Operations has grown from a single facility in 2015 to four operating plants today, with a combined treatment capacity of 97,500 m³/d. Projects currently underway will add an additional facility and increase capacity to 127,500 m³/d by the end of 2026.
The Senior Engineer Supervisor, Engineering is accountable for ensuring engineering and automation resources are deployed effectively to sustain safe, compliant and cost-effective water treatment across the operation, while delivering practical solutions that enable Water Operations to meet production and environmental targets.
To be successful, you will combine strong technical expertise with proven leadership and communication skills to understand operational needs, develop practical plans, and coordinate their execution. You must be able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment while remaining organized and adaptable. Equally important is the ability to translate complex technical issues for operations teams, management, and regulators, supporting timely and well-informed decision-making.

In this role you will:
- Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
- Collaborate across teams to ensure the safe and effective delivery of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan, achieving regulatory targets and in-stream objectives
- Lead the Engineering team by prioritizing work and allocating resources to ensure objectives are achieved across multiple site operations
- Foster a collaborative team environment that strengthens technical capability and knowledge sharing
- Conduct performance and development assessments to support continuous learning and innovation
- Promote structured and efficient decision-making through effective problem framing, information gathering, and risk evaluation
- Lead the development of work scopes through strong communication and collaboration with operating sites, environmental functions, and project teams
- Drive debottlenecking and optimization initiatives to improve performance
- Ensure effective implementation and adherence to the Management of Change (MOC) process
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members to build capability and support succession
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in operations and/or process engineering
- Degree in Engineering preferred (Process, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, or related discipline); registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with, or eligible for registration with, Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)
- Alternative qualifications will be considered with relevant experience, including:
- Degree in related field (e.g., chemistry, environmental science, or applied science)
- Diploma or certification in a relevant technical discipline
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams in complex operating environments
- Proven ability to coordinate, influence, and communicate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders and regulators
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills in fast-paced, dynamic environments
- Postgraduate degree (Master’s or PhD) is considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
