As one of Australia’s largest integrated mining and metals businesses, Mount Isa Mines operates a world-class metallurgical network spanning processing operations in Mount Isa and refining and port operations in Townsville.  We are seeking an exceptional operational leader to lead our Metallurgical Operations business through its next phase of performance, transformation and growth.
 
The Opportunity
 Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer – Glencore Metals Australia, the General Manager – Metallurgical Operations is accountable for the safe, sustainable and profitable performance of Mount Isa Mines’ integrated metallurgical business, encompassing Mount Isa processing operations together with the Townsville Copper Refinery and Port Operations.
 
Leading a large multidisciplinary workforce, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple sites, ensuring safe production, operational excellence, asset reliability and financial performance while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.  As a member of the Glencore Metals Australia Operations Leadership Team, you will play a key role in shaping strategy, driving operational integration and delivering long-term value across the business.
 
Key responsibilities
  • Lead with an uncompromising commitment to safety and Glencore’s Values.
  • Provide strategic direction and operational leadership across Mount Isa Metallurgical Operations, the Townsville Copper Refinery and Port Operations.
  • Deliver production, cost, recovery and reliability outcomes through disciplined operational execution.
  • Build and develop a high-performing leadership team across geographically dispersed operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives to improve business performance.
  • Manage significant operating and capital budgets to deliver sustainable financial outcomes.
  • Ensure effective governance, statutory compliance and risk management across all operations.
  • Build strong partnerships with technical, commercial, support function and external stakeholders.
About You
You are a proven executive leader with extensive experience leading complex metallurgical, mineral processing or heavy industrial operations.

You will bring:
  • Demonstrated success leading large, multi-site operational businesses.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience managing significant operational budgets.
  • A track record of improving operational performance, reliability and culture.
  • Exceptional leadership capability with a passion for developing people.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across operational and corporate environments.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Metallurgy or a related discipline.
