Assistant Supervisor 

 

Glencore’s McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc–lead mine with a long future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola, MRM produces and processes zinc, lead, and silver from our open cut operation. Product is transported to our Bing Bong loading facility and shipped worldwide, where it is used in essential products for mobility, infrastructure, and communications.

About the Role

 

As an Assistant Supervisor you will support the Supervisor to coordinate and manage the safe operation of the mining team and overburden emplacement facility to achieve production target efficiency. You will also assist in implementing mine designs aligned with the life of mine plan for all mining areas. 

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Lead and support the safety, performance, and development of a 40-person crew.
  • Coordinate daily meetings and deliver on the Daily and Weekly Mine Plans.
  • Collaborate with dispatch, planning, maintenance, and geology to achieve targets.
  • Uphold Fatal Hazard Protocols and Life-Saving Behaviours, ensuring crew accountability.
  • Investigate and report incidents promptly and to a high standard.
  • Monitor KPIs, drive continuous improvement, and foster a positive crew culture.
  • Assign tasks aligned to training and competence, providing mentoring and feedback.
  • Work with the mining supervisor on fleet optimisation and training plans.
  • Ensure effective handovers and adherence to the Voids Management procedure.
  • Inspect the workplace regularly, promoting safe work practices.

 

Successful Applicant Will Have

 

  • S1, S2, S3 supervisor competencies (desirable) 
  • First Aid certificate (desirable)
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • A drive for improvement and willingness to challenge the status quo
  • Strong multi-tasking, problem-solving, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Confidence in public speaking and addressing teams
