Superintendent – Mine Planning
Glencore's McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a strong future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, approximately 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola, we produce and process zinc, lead and silver from our open-cut operation.
Our products are transported to our Bing Bong loading facility and shipped globally, playing a crucial role in supplying essential commodities used in mobility, infrastructure and communications.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring mining activities are planned and executed safely and efficiently, in line with production targets, regulatory requirements and the overall mine plan.
About the Role
Reporting to the Manager – Technical Services, you will lead and support a team of mining engineering professionals, providing technical direction and strong leadership to deliver operational outcomes.
You will oversee mine planning activities covering drilling, blasting, excavation, haulage, stockpiling and mine development projects. You will also work closely with Mining Production, Technical Services, HSEC, Metallurgy and the Regional Technical Services team.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain mine plans, schedules and budgets to achieve production targets.
- Provide technical leadership across drilling, blasting, excavation, haulage, stockpiling and development projects.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of mining professionals, including Senior Mining Engineers and technical specialists.
- Promote and contribute to Glencore SafeWork protocols and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety and mining legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor operational and financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports on production, safety, costs and performance for senior management.
- Drive continuous improvement across mine planning and engineering activities.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A relevant university degree in mining engineering or a related discipline.
- Open-cut mining experience
- Demonstrated leadership and people management capability.
- Strong experience in mine planning, design and scheduling.
- Proficiency in relevant mining software and technology.
- Sound knowledge of mining safety legislation, standards and best practices.
- Experience with budgeting, financial management and performance analysis.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem solving skills.
