About the role

We are seeking an experienced Safety Advisor to join our Safety & Health Operations team at our Townsville Operations. Reporting to the Lead Safety Advisor, this role is critical in supporting the site to achieve strong, sustainable safety outcomes. You will provide practical, visible, hands on safety leadership across the operation, working closely with leaders and frontline teams to embed safe work practices, ensure compliance with legislative and Glencore standards, and deliver measurable safety improvements.  This role is well suited to a safety professional who enjoys being present in the field, influencing positive behaviour, and partnering with operations to proactively manage risk and strengthen safety culture.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support Townsville Operations to achieve safety performance targets aligned with business plans, Glencore standards and legislative requirements
  • Partner with leaders and operational teams to plan and implement safety and health improvement initiatives
  • Promote safety awareness, monitor compliance, and support the continuous improvement of safety management systems
  • Facilitate and participate in risk and change management activities
  • Lead incident investigations using the ICAM methodology and communicate learnings effectively
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits and safety observations
  • Provide injury management, rehabilitation and return to work support
  • Support emergency management systems and site fire safety requirements
  • Prepare and deliver safety performance reports and insights

About You

You are a proactive and experienced safety professional who enjoys being embedded in operations and working closely with people at all levels to influence positive and lasting change.

You take a practical, hands on approach to safety, balancing compliance with real world solutions that support safe and productive work. Comfortable operating in dynamic, high risk environments, you engage confidently with leaders, frontline workers and contractors, and you bring a calm, solutions?focused mindset when managing risk, incidents or change.

You are motivated by continuous improvement and take pride in contributing to a culture where people feel supported, accountable and empowered.

You will bring:

  • A Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in safety roles within heavy industry, manufacturing, transport & logistics, mining or resources
  • Strong capability in risk assessments, audits, incident investigations and legislative compliance
  • Proven ability to engage effectively and professionally across all levels of an organisation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and educate
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, with a proactive approach to risk management
  • A collaborative, practical and solutions focused work style
  • Experience in process safety, emergency management, security management, injury management and rehabilitation (advantageous)
  • Experience with ICAM, Bowtie, or critical control management systems (desirable)
