The Role
We are seeking a Superintendent Geotechnical Engineer to join the Technical Services team at George Fisher Mine, reporting to the Technical Services Manager. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Geotechnical work complies with safety and quality standards in a technically complex and growing mining operation with a long mining life.
This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your communication, technical, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills as you lead a large Geotechnical team with diverse professional backgrounds at varying career stages. Working closely with both operational and technical teams to ensure that operational and financial targets are met, while maintaining continuous improvement of people and culture, and aligning with our values.
You will be responsible for all Geotechnical management plans, procedures, systems, and processes for underground and surface operations at both George Fisher Mine and Mount Isa Mine. You will be responsible for ensuring that Geotechnical contributions for Projects, as well as Long-, Mid-, and Short-Term actionable plans, are completed within the required deadlines to meet operational objectives. Geotechnical monitoring and instrumentation are installed and maintained to provide a safe working environment for all personnel.

Your key responsibilities include:
- Adhere to the Ground Control Management Plan, the Queensland Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act, and associated regulations.
- Overseeing the development, training, and support of the Geotechnical Engineering team. Reviewing team work, tracking, reporting, maintaining, and ensuring compliance with department performance metrics.
- Delivering strategic business goals, including ground support trials and projects across the lease.
- Ensure that underground and surface inspections and geotechnical mapping are conducted in both operational and care and maintenance areas at George Fisher Mine and Mount Isa Mine.
- Management of vertical openings, backfill, and tailings dam inspections.
- Contribute to all mine scheduling activities and the mining sequence.
- Departmental budgets, safety systems and continuous improvement programs are maintained and managed.
- A degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Geoscience focusing on Mining or Geotechnical Engineering.
- A minimum of 8 years' experience (or more) in underground hard rock mining and at least 1 year of open-cut experience.
- Proficiency in numerical modelling software Flac3D and Map3D.
- Familiarity with mine design software (e.g., Deswik Suite).
- Clear communication, critical thinking, and practical problem-resolution skills.
- Experience with supervising teams, mentoring, and developing others.
- A high level of accuracy and time management.
- Experience with Geotechnical software packages (RocScience, Leapfrog, FLAC 3D).
- Australian Manual Drivers' Licence or ability to obtain a manual license
