Mount Isa Mines are currently advertising for a vacant Ventilation Officer position that exists in the Technical Services team. This role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off – 9 hour shift. We encourage suitably qualified and experienced local candidates to apply. For those candidates located outside of Mount Isa, relocation support is available for this position to enable you and your family to live and work in Mount Isa.

About the role
The Ventilation Officer reports directly to the Senior Ventilation Officer and plays a critical role in supporting the safe, efficient and compliant operation of George Fisher Mine’s underground ventilation systems. In this position, you will assist in developing, monitoring, auditing, and optimising ventilation controls and systems, ensuring air quality, airflow and environmental conditions meet statutory and site standards. This role forms part of the Technical Services team and works closely with operations, planning and engineering teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensure underground ventilation systems operate safely, efficiently and in compliance with statutory and site requirements.
- Monitor and optimise airflow, air quality and environmental conditions across underground operations.
- Identify ventilation risks (gas, heat, dust, airflow constraints) and implement practical mitigation strategies.
- Maintain and continuously improve ventilation models to support current operations and future planning.
- Provide clear, practical ventilation guidance to operations and planning teams.
- Support planning activities through ventilation input for development, stoping and infrastructure decisions.
- Ensure ventilation systems, controls and infrastructure are effectively monitored, maintained and performing as intended.
- Maintain accurate ventilation records, reporting and compliance documentation.
- Contribute to ventilation standards, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote ventilation awareness and support safe work practices across site.
About you – skills and experience:
You will bring
- Broad knowledge of underground mining operations and ability to work independently or within a team.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground ventilation, with at least 2 years in underground metalliferous mining.
- Strong troubleshooting and fault finding skills in complex ventilation systems.
- Strong communication and problem solving capabilities with ability to work across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Proven ability to interpret ventilation data and implement practical controls
- Experience using Ventsim or equivalent ventilation modelling software
- Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
- Experience in environmental monitoring, heat management, or ventilation infrastructure installation.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
