About the role:
Reporting to the Manager, Processing, the Superintendent, Process Operations is accountable for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the coal processing plant. The Superintendent, Process Operations must collaborate closely with Process Maintenance and Process Engineering to ensure alignment on plant requirements. This role provides leadership to the operations team and ensures alignment with site production, quality, and business objectives.

In this role you will:
- Champion and model adherence to all health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Foster a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with the Health & Safety Program and applicable legislation (e.g., BC Mines Act)
- Provide visible, values-based leadership to crews, promoting accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
- Ensure effective workforce planning, scheduling, and deployment to meet operational requirements
- Support leadership development within the team through coaching, development planning, and recognition programs
- Administer and interpret collective agreements, including grievance handling and labour relations
- Lead the day-to-day coal processing operations, ensuring safe, stable, and efficient plant performance
- Optimize production processes to maximize recovery, throughput, and yield while minimizing cost and variability
- Ensure product quality consistently meets or exceeds customer and contractual specifications
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to address performance gaps
- Collaborate closely with Process Maintenance and Process Engineering to ensure alignment on plant reliability and improvement initiatives
- Partner with Mine Operations, Engineering, Marketing, Rail, Logistics, and Port teams to meet production, shipping, and sales targets
- Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives by providing operational insights and recommendations
- Coordinate rail loadout activities and ensure efficient product movement in alignment with shipping schedules
- Establish clear goals and expectations for operations crews and communicate performance results regularly
- Drive continuous improvement through the use of data, root cause analysis, and best practices
Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of progressively senior experience in a coal processing or similar heavy industrial environment
- Proven leadership experience in an operational setting, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams
- Strong ability to influence and collaborate across functions to drive alignment and results
- Solid understanding of coal processing circuits, plant operations, and production optimization principles
- Experience working in a unionized environment and administering collective agreements is preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and regulatory compliance
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage data to inform decisions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Power BI or similar tools is an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Exposure to plant maintenance and reliability practices is considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
