The Mount Isa Zinc operations are integrated across the entire supply chain, from resource identification and development through production and distribution of zinc and lead to customers worldwide.

Your key responsibilities include:
- Ensure compliance is maintained with the Ground Control Management plan and the QLD Mining Quarrying and Safety ACT.
- Train, mentor, and develop Geotechnical Engineers, including structured coaching, review of technical outputs, and support for professional competency progression.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives that increase development/stoping efficiency without compromising ground control outcomes.
- Ensure department KPIs are met through effective performance reporting, leading indicator tracking, and proactive management of geotechnical action backlogs.
- Conduct design compliance and conformance audits (planned vs executed), including support installation QA/QC, drill-and-blast conformance impacts, and adherence to exclusion zones.
- Oversee the mapping, data gathering, and alignment of information, along with stope performance metrics such as overbreak/underbreak and ELOS/dilution elements to improve design criteria consistently.
- Conduct and report empirical and numerical modelling for new mining blocks, including scenario testing to support short-term extraction sequence decisions and controls.
- Maintain governance over the geotechnical model/domains (rock mass conditions, structural interpretation, stress/hydro assumptions as applicable), ensuring short-term designs use current and validated inputs.
- A tertiary degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering or Geoscience with majors in Mining and Geotechnical engineering.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in underground hard rock mining.
- Demonstrate teamwork, proficient communication skills, practical problem-solving skills, and analytical skills.
- High level of accuracy in their work and ability to manage time effectively.
- Proficient in using the following software packages: RocScience, Deswick, Leapfrog3D, FLAC 3D.A sound knowledge of risk management, safety systems and legislative requirements.
