About the role: 

Reporting to the Senior Engineer Supervisor, Process, the Engineer, Processing, Water Operations, is responsible for process data analysis and execution of continuous improvement initiatives at various water treatment facilities in the Elk Valley, supporting a rapidly expanding operations team.

The technology we are using represents some of the most sophisticated selenium, nitrate, and sulphate removal technology in the world - working to advance the objectives of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan.

To be successful, we are looking for a highly motivated and resourceful leader with strong learning agility and with exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, who can effectively learn from and engage with professionals across departments and at varying levels of the organization; someone with strong attention to detail, problem-solving, troubleshooting, decision-making, analytical and organizational abilities; This position requires a flexible individual who can adapt to changing needs in fast-paced environment, and who can work with nominal supervision using a collaborative approach on a team that tackles complex and novel issues. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who can drive and keep pace with change and innovation.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies 
  • Collaborate with others to deliver value, contributing to the goals of Elk Valley Water Quality Plan
  • Optimize site operations by analyzing process data and making recommendations for troubleshooting, debottlenecking and continuous improvement
  • Develop test plans, provide oversight, and actively participate in test execution – including working closely with operations to develop operating work instructions, management and data analysis of test results, and documentation of results through formal reports
  • Lead/develop/implement process-related MOCs (Management of Change)
  • Conduct engineering design, check, and review for projects
  • Coach junior staff such as technicians and coops

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering such as chemical, biological, mineral, or civil
  • Minimum 2 years of experience focused on water/wastewater treatment
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
  • Strong understanding of process engineering fundamentals such as mass balances, fluid mechanics, and equipment sizing/selection
  • Facility commissioning/operation experience is a strong asset
  • Experience with selenium, nitrate and sulphate treatment is a strong asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent 

Salary range: 108,000 - 133, 000 CAD /year

 


The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
