The Role: 
We are actively recruiting for an experienced Senior Occupational Hygienist to join us in the HSEC Team.  Reporting into the Mount Isa Mines HSEC Manager, you will provide technical leadership and expert guidance across our Smelting, Processing and Mining operations, influencing health risk management strategies and driving continuous improvement across our operations.
 
To deliver on that purpose some of your responsibilities will be: 
  • Providing guidance, coaching, mentoring and support to other members of the team.
  • Lead and facilitate the occupational hygiene monitoring program across our operations
  • Identify, assess, and control exposure to physical, chemical, and biological hazards (e.g. dusts, silica, noise, diesel particulate matter, fumes, heat)
  • Working closely with leaders in our business to limit and control workplace hygiene and health hazards and exposures.
  • Organising, supervising and/or conducting workplace exposure assessments.
  • Compliance reporting through to assisting with product stewardship of the commodities we produce and the products we utilise.
  • Keeping the business up to date with legislative changes, support regulatory compliance, audits, and inspections
  • Interpret data, prepare technical reports, and provide risk-based recommendations.
  • Investigating and, where warranted, championing new and innovative ideas and technology to reduce hygiene risks and exposures.
  • Anticipating, recognising, evaluating and controlling risks and hazards to improve work conditions and practices for our people. 
What you will need to do the role:
  • Tertiary or post graduate qualifications in Occupational Hygiene
  • Significant experience as an Occupational Hygienist within mining or heavy industry
  • Strong knowledge of mining-related health hazards and applicable legislation
  • Collaborative leadership qualities
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills
  • The ability to liaise and communicate effectively across multiple levels of the workforce, management, regulatory bodies, medical and health providers.
  • Demonstrated experience in occupational hygiene principles, practice and application.
  • Familiarisation with OHS systems, hazard identification and risk assessments
  • Industry certifications and professional body membership will all be regarded but are not essential. Glencore has a long history of investing in our people and supporting professional development.
