Mount Isa Mines are currently advertising for a Mid Term Mining Engineer vacancy that exists in the George Fisher Mine, Technical Services team.   This role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a 5/2 4/3, 9 hour roster. We encourage suitably qualified and experienced local candidates to apply. For those candidates located outside of Mount Isa, relocation support is available for this position to enable you and your family to live and work in Mount Isa.

About the role

 

Reporting to the Superintendent – Mid Term Planning, the Mid Term Mining Engineer is responsible for transforming the conceptual long term mine plan into an effective, budgeted operational plan covering the 6–24?month planning horizon. Once the plan is approximately 80% executable, it is handed over to the Short Term Planning team for detailed design and operational execution. The role acts as a key conduit between strategic planning and day?to?day operational delivery, working across multiple complex underground metalliferous sites within Queensland Metals.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Convert long term conceptual mining plans into practical, budgeted mid term operational plans for the 6–24?month timeframe.
  • Prepare and deliver 80% executable plans to the Short Term Planning team for final design and implementation.
  • Work collaboratively with peers, site teams and other departments to ensure accuracy, feasibility and alignment of mid term plans.
  • Act as a bridge between strategy and operational teams, contributing mine planning insight across multiple sites.
  • Support budget development and ensure plans align with commercial, production and cost objectives.
  • Apply technical knowledge of underground metalliferous mine design and scheduling to planning tasks.
  • Utilise Deswik software for mid term planning activities (training provided if required).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the mine planning process across Queensland Metals operations.

 

About you – skills and experience:

 

You will bring

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geology or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in underground metalliferous mining.
  • Mine planning experience at Mid Term or Long Term level preferred; Short Term Planning experience also suitable as a development step.
  • Experience working with Deswik software is highly desirable (training provided).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across teams and sites.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including budgeting within a mining context.
  • Ability to translate strategic plans into operationally practical mine designs.
  • Strong analytical, planning and organisational capability.
  • Ability to work across multiple large, complex operations while balancing competing priorities.
