Copper Refineries are currently seeking suitably qualified applicants for the role of 2x Shift Refinery Maintainer – Fitters to join the Refinery Maintenance Department. This is a residential Townsville, on a 4/4 Day only roster, 12 hour day shift., offering the balance of challenging, meaningful work and the opportunity to return home every day. You will work closely with frontline teams and leaders to embed safe work practices, drive improvements and influence positive safety culture outcomes.

About the role

 

As a Refinery Maintainer (Mechanical Fitter) within the Copper Refinery Maintenance team, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a world class industrial facility. Reporting to the Maintenance Shift Supervisor, this residential position offers hands on exposure to a wide range of fixed plant maintenance activities within an electrolytic copper refinery. Working on a 4x4, 12 hour day only roster, you will contribute directly to plant availability, equipment reliability, and production performance while continuing to develop your trade skills in a complex heavy industry environment.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and planned maintenance activities on fixed plant equipment across the refinery
  • Diagnose faults, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and carry out corrective repairs
  • Manage servicing, overhauls, and maintenance of machinery and equipment
  • Review, develop, and update preventative maintenance plans to improve reliability
  • Support improvement initiatives aimed at reducing unplanned downtime
  • Maintain high standards of workplace health, safety, and operational compliance
  • Coach and support apprentices and production personnel to build mechanical capability

 

About You

 

You are a qualified Mechanical Fitter who takes pride in delivering quality work in a safety critical industrial environment. You bring a practical, solutions focused approach to maintenance, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. You value teamwork, communicate clearly, and are committed to continuous learning and improvement. Safety, reliability, and attention to detail underpin everything you do.

 

You will bring:

  • Mechanical Fitting and Turning trade qualification or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in heavy industry, including exposure to hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and schematic drawings
  • Strong fault finding, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
  • Understanding of machinery assembly and disassembly processes
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work to production deadlines
  • A flexible, adaptable approach with high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new processes and systems
  • Current Australian manual driver’s licence
  • Forklift licence, basic rigging/dogging, or EWP tickets (advantageous)
