Mount Isa Mines are currently advertising for a Senior – Metallurgist Planning professional to join the Metallurgical Technical Services team.   This role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a M-F, 5/2, 4/3 roster. We encourage suitably qualified and experienced local candidates to apply. For those candidates located outside of Mount Isa, relocation support is available for this position to enable you and your family to live and work in Mount Isa.

About the role

 

Reporting to the Senior Primary Metallurgist, you will provide technical support to the Copper Smelter and play a key role in achieving business objectives through plant performance monitoring, operational support, and metallurgical improvement initiatives. You will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Refinery, Planning and Technical teams to improve metal recovery, process stability, operating costs and environmental performance.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

• Analyse plant performance and provide day-to-day technical support to Production teams
• Monitor metallurgical performance indicators and provide technical recommendations to support operational decision-making
• Support ISASMELT operations through disciplined process control and optimisation of operating parameters
• Conduct investigations, trials and data analysis to resolve process challenges and improve plant performance
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Refinery, Planning and Technical teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities
• Deliver metallurgical improvement projects focused on safety, recovery, cost reduction, process stability and environmental performance
• Maintain technical reporting, documentation and process monitoring systems to support continuous improvement

 

About you – skills and experience

 

You are a safety-focused and proactive metallurgical professional who enjoys solving complex processing challenges and translating data into practical operational improvements. You thrive in a collaborative environment, can build strong working relationships across operational and technical teams, and are passionate about continuous improvement, process optimisation, and delivering sustainable results.

 

You will have qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
• Experience in pyrometallurgy and/or copper smelting operations
• Proficiency in metallurgical data analysis and process improvement techniques based on the attached advert
