Mount Isa Mines are currently seeking suitably qualified applicants for the role of an Engineer - Reliability to join the Reliability Team at the Zinc Lead Concentrator. The team is responsible for supporting the maintenance and operations team in maintaining/enhancing the reliability of the Zinc Lead Concentrator and Filter Plant.

The Role 
Reporting to the Senior Reliability Engineer – Processing Maintenance, this is a residential role in Mount Isa, working a 5/2, 4/3 roster. Plant equipment includes but is not limited to, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, conveyors, ball and sag mills, cyclones, filter presses, pressure equipment, cranes, thickeners, tanks, and floatation equipment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Utilising condition monitoring data to manage and report on equipment risk to mitigate losses due to throughput and equipment downtime
  • Managing statutory equipment
  • Optimising reliability, eliminating losses, maximising utilisation and asset life in a safe and cost-effective manner.
  • Responsible for minor improvement projects in the Processing footprint
  • Review, develop and align maintenance strategies,
  • Lease with plant metallurgists, operations, maintenance and other stakeholders to identify and develop engineering solutions to reduce repetitive failures and issues that adversely affect plant perfromance,
  • Assist in mentoring graduate engineers and vacation students 


You will have the following skillset and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree - Mechanical Engineering
  • Proactive, self-motivated, result driven individual with excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work in stressful environments in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Focus on safety through care rather than compliance
  • Ability to work professionally with minimal supervision


Desirable experience:

  • 2-5 years’ experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Experience in condition monitoring – vibration and oil analysis, thermography, NDT etc.
  • Experience/Proficiency in SAP 
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Experience in Failure Analysis, RCM, FMECA and other reliability practices
