Glencore's McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a strong future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, approximately 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola, we produce and process zinc, lead, and silver from our open-cut operation. About The Role:
Lead environmental studies and strategic projects that support regulatory approvals, environmental compliance and the long-term success of MRM. Working closely with operational teams, regulators, consultants and contractors, you will drive environmental initiatives that reduce risk, improve business performance and support sustainable mining operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of environmental studies and projects.
- Identify and manage technical studies required to meet environmental approval conditions and support future operations.
- Prepare scopes of work, manage consultants and contractors, and oversee project delivery.
- Develop and manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets, forecasts and project expenditure.
- Oversee compliance with the Waste Discharge Licence, including annual reporting requirements.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and strategic advice across the Environment team.
- Monitor project progress, prepare reports and communicate outcomes to key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with operational departments to identify opportunities for environmental and business improvement.
Key Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Previous mining industry experience, with at least 5 years in a similar environmental management role.
- Demonstrated experience leading environmental projects, managing budgets and coordinating contractors.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, regulatory approvals and environmental risk management.
- Excellent technical review, report writing and project management skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels.
- A proactive approach with a strong commitment to safety, continuous improvement and environmental excellence.
