About the role:  
 
This position will be part of a team of hard-working professionals in a growing and technically exciting field working towards achieving the objectives of Elk Valley Resources’ (EVR’s) Elk Valley Water Quality Plan!  
 
Reporting to the Lead, Environment Water Treatment, the Coordinator, Environment Water Treatment is responsible for providing operations and project support for the West Line Creek Active Water Treatment Facility (WLC AWTF). You will be responsible for supporting a water treatment facility in environmental risk identification and mitigation and environmental compliance. The role will be based out of Sparwood though routine travel to site will also be expected.

This person thrives in a fast-paced team environment and can prioritize and organize contending demands. Most importantly, we require an individual with outstanding analytical and decision-making abilities, who can identify and understand regulatory and environmental risks and find practical solutions.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies  
  • Develop, review, and implement operational plans, management plans, best management practices, procedures and work instructions  
  • Prepare and coordinate the submission of internal and external reports including the quarterly and annual treatment performance reports  
  • Coordinate sampling programs for compliance monitoring, support monitoring programs and ongoing operations, and review monitoring program data and consultant reports  
  • Manage, graph and analyze water quality data including conducting QA/QC  
  • Develop, review, and implement site specific compliance and environmental monitoring programs, data management systems and sampling and lab monitoring procedures  
  • Understand applicable commitments, permits and associated requirements to inform management decisions and actions  
  • Develop and provide environmental training to Project and Operations Teams  
  • Contribute to project application reviews, hazard assessments and guide the development of complex risk reduction programs for upcoming projects and facility expansions  
  • Provide environmental support during pre-commissioning and commissioning of facility expansions and new facilities 

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in an Environmental Science subject area  
  • Minimum three years' experience in the field of environmental compliance or monitoring in the water treatment or resource management fields  
  • Technical knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices related to water management and resource development  
  • Experience with environmental data management software and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite®; especially Excel  
  • Knowledge of environmental science, environmental engineering, biology, chemistry, water quality, water treatment, or fisheries is an asset  
  • Experience in water treatment is an asset  
  • EQuIS experience is an asset  
  • Groundwater monitoring field experience is an asset 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
