He/She will ensure the stability, geometry and layout of the discharge areas, as well as the proper management of traffic and the optimal use of equipment. He/She will monitor operational performance, identify risks and implement the necessary corrective measures. In collaboration with the Mining, Dispatch, Technical Services, Mine Planning, Geology/Grade Control, Survey, Maintenance and HSE teams, he/she will contribute to the continuity of operations and the achievement of production objectives.

He/She will have, among others, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

  • Ensure the safety of spill operations. This includes conducting regular inspections of spill areas, stockpiles, tipping points, and taxiways, identifying hazards related to ground instability, landfill edges, and weather conditions, as well as implementing required safety controls. This includes maintaining berms, windrows, and other protective devices, stopping work in the event of a critical hazard, and participating in incident investigations.
  • Oversee ore and waste rock dumping operations. This includes the day-to-day coordination of dumping activities in accordance with mine plans, operational sequences and licensed destinations. This includes directing trucks to the appropriate areas, adhering to discharge limits, preparing spill areas, and properly segregating ores, low-grade materials, and waste rock to prevent destination errors and contamination.
  • Monitor the stability, geometry, and conditions of spill areas. This includes tracking landfill geometry, layer heights, spill boundaries, berms, and ground conditions. This includes quickly identifying signs of instability, risk of edge collapse, and water accumulation, as well as coordinating with Survey and Technical Services to ensure spill areas comply with approved designs and operational requirements.
  • Optimize the performance and productivity of operations. This includes tracking truck cycle times, queues, spill times, and equipment utilization rate. This includes identifying operational constraints, analyzing delays, coordinating with the Load & Haul and Dispatch teams, as well as implementing corrective actions to reduce wait times, streamline material movement, and meet production targets.
  • Provide traffic management and control of spill areas. This includes organizing traffic flows, controlling the movement of trucks and supporting equipment, and safely segregating light vehicles, heavy machinery, and pedestrians. This includes checking signage, lighting, access and exit routes, as well as coordinating with Dispatch to tailor truck assignment and spill destinations to operational conditions.
  • Coordinate the availability and use of mining equipment. This includes coordinating the availability and deployment of bulldozers, graders, tankers, haul trucks, and other equipment necessary for operations. This includes monitoring their operational status, verifying pre-start-up inspections, reporting defects, coordinating with Maintenance to prioritize critical failures, and removing equipment that poses a safety or production risk from service.
  • Supervise the operational teams and develop their skills. This includes the distribution of tasks, the communication of priorities at each workstation and the facilitation of the start of the shift meetings and toolbox talks. This includes monitoring individual and collective performance, coaching teams, identifying training needs and strengthening discipline, accountability, collaboration and compliance with procedures with the staff and service providers concerned.
  • Coordinate activities with relevant departments. This includes reviewing daily and weekly mine plans and translating them into clear operational priorities. This includes working with Mine Planning, Technical Services, Survey, Geology/Grade Control, Dispatch, Maintenance, HSE and Load & Haul to resolve constraints, clarify material destinations, communicate operational changes and ensure accurate and complete shift handovers.
  • Track metrics and operational reporting. This includes reliably recording production activities, delays, incidents, equipment constraints, and operational risks. This includes preparing shift and daily reports, tracking spill area performance indicators, communicating deviations from targets, and participating in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) when necessary.
  • Implement corrective and continuous improvement actions. This includes analyzing recurring issues affecting safety, traffic, material management, and spill area productivity. This includes making practical recommendations, following up on approved corrective actions, evaluating their effectiveness, and promoting work methods that sustainably improve safety, equipment utilization, and the overall efficiency of mining operations.
