Job Description 

 

Reporting directly to the Superintendent – Underground Mobile Equipment Maintenance, the position holder will provide specialized electrical and electronic technical expertise across the entire underground drilling, loading, and hauling fleet. This will include Sandvik drills as well as Caterpillar loaders and trucks.

 

The role will cover the diagnosis of electrical, electronic, control, and communication systems, as well as providing technical support for maintenance and troubleshooting activities. The position holder will contribute to improving equipment availability and reliability and will also have a key responsibility for developing the electrical technical capabilities of the national workforce.

 

The incumbent will, among other duties, be responsible for :

  • Diagnosing complex electrical and electronic failures, including the analysis of circuits, wiring, sensors, control systems, electronic devices, and communication systems.
  • Providing technical support for planned maintenance, including electrical and electronic interventions on drills, loaders, trucks, and other relevant mobile equipment.
  • Troubleshooting electrical breakdowns, including fault diagnosis, component replacement or repair, and equipment restoration.
  • Diagnosing complex electrical and electronic failures, including the analysis of circuits, wiring, sensors, control systems, electronic devices, and communication systems.
  • Providing technical support for planned maintenance, including electrical and electronic interventions on drills, loaders, trucks, and other relevant mobile equipment.
  • Troubleshooting electrical breakdowns, including fault diagnosis, component replacement or repair, and equipment restoration.
  • Providing expertise on OEM control systems, including the analysis of onboard electronic systems and machine control devices.
  • Analyzing recurring electrical failures by reviewing root causes, maintenance history, and equipment performance and recommending corrective actions.
  • Supporting equipment commissioning and recommissioning, including electrical testing, functional checks, and verification of compliance before returning equipment to operations.
  • Ensuring compliance with electrical work requirements, including mining safety standards, OEM requirements, KCC standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of interventions, including work orders, inspections, faults, repairs, and equipment history in SAP.
  • Collaborating with technical teams and OEMs, including Mining Operations, Planning, Reliability, Technical Services, HSE, and OEM technical representatives.
  • Developing electrical team capabilities through coaching, mentoring, and practical technical knowledge transfer to national electricians.

 

Job Requirements 

 

Qualifications and Experience 

 

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Engineering, and/or equivalent professional experience with demonstrated technical competencies recognized through the holistic assessment process.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical and electronic maintenance of mining mobile equipment.
  • Experience working on Sandvik and/or Caterpillar equipment, or equivalent technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring, sensors, control systems, and communication systems.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and OEM technical documentation.
  • Experience using electrical measurement instruments and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and transfer technical skills.
