Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Health, Safety & Environment Lead, the incumbent is responsible for providing special support for the planning, implementation and continual improvement of HSE Standards, Fatal Hazard Protocols (FHPs) and SafeWork requirements across the region. Additionally, the role provides oversight of the quality of Critical Control Performance Standards (CCPS) and supports Critical Control Verification (CCV) execution, verifying the health of the region's Critical Control Management process, and drives consistent application of HSE requirements across all operations.
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
- Support the Planning, Implementation and Sustainability of HSE Standards, Fatal Hazard Protocols and SafeWork requirements
- Guide the implementation and continual improvement plans across each asset for embedding HSE Standards, Fatal Hazard Protocols (FHPs) and SafeWork requirements.
- Provide in-field leadership and guidance in relation to HSE Standards, FHPs and SafeWork – evaluating the effectiveness of SafeWork planning, supervision and operational safety controls.
- Professionally challenge the quality of existing systems, processes, and the effectiveness of controls to prevent harm and drive continual improvement in HSE performance.
- Catastrophic Hazard Management
- Support asset Risk Business Partners and Risk owners in the implementation of Catastrophic Hazard Management.
- Support governance and oversight of Critical Control Management (CCM) activities across the region.
- Work in collaboration with Risk Business Partners, Standards Owners, Risk and Control Owners to assess material risks, develop quality Critical Control Performance Standards and implement effective critical control management practices across the assets.
- Support evidence-based Risk, Standards and FHP reviews and confirmations periodically.
- Report on material operational risk assurance outcomes and identify emerging risks requiring escalation.
- Analyze regional operational risk trends and support continual improvement.
- Provide input into the Africa Risk and Assurance Committee
- Stakeholder Management
- Build effective working relationships across Operations, Projects and Functional Departments to support consistent implementation of HSE Standards, Fatal Hazard Protocols, and SafeWork requirements.
- Engage with Department HSE, Enterprise Risk Management and technical leads to achieve alignment with corporate requirements.
- Facilitate regional governance forums, working groups and assurance reviews
- Reporting and Governance
- Prepare regional dashboards and reports on Standards, SafeWork requirements, Critical Control Management.
- Track assurance findings and corrective action closure.
- Support Executive governance forums through timely reporting and performance analysis.
- Maintain governance records and implementation trackers.
- Organizational Learning and Continuous Improvement
- Support regional capability building and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Facilitate the effective sharing of lessons learned, best practices and knowledge across KCC and MUMI.
- Monitor implementation of lessons arising from incidents, audits and assurance activities.
- Identify opportunities to standardize successful practices across the region.
- Promote continual improvement through cross-site collaboration and knowledge exchange
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, Safety & Environment or equivalent.
- Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 preferred).
- ICAM Investigator qualification desirable.
- Critical Risk Management training is desirable.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in HSE within the mining industry.
- Minimum 5 years' experience implementing HSE Standards and Fatal Hazard Protocols.
- Experience in assurance, auditing and Critical Risk Management.
- Experience facilitating investigations, governance reviews and operational assurance.
- Demonstrated ability to influence multiple stakeholders across operational and corporate functions.
