Main Objectives of the Position
Reporting to the Technical Training Manager, the Technical Training Superintendent is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring technical training programmes to ensure employees have the knowledge, skills and competencies required to perform their duties safely, efficiently and in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
The role supports workforce capability development across mining, processing, maintenance, logistics and other operational functions. It oversees technical training planning, competency assessments, training delivery and performance monitoring, while ensuring that mandatory training requirements are met and that training interventions address operational needs.
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Training or a related field.
- Professional qualifications in Training and Development or Adult Education would be an advantage.
- Assessor and Moderator certifications are preferred.
- Additional certifications in Training of Trainers, Instructional Design or Learning and Development would be an advantage.
- Certifications in Competency-Based Training, Competency Assessment Systems or Skills Development Facilitation would be an advantage.
- Qualifications or certifications in Project Management, Leadership, Change Management, Coaching or Mentoring would be an advantage.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mining operations, technical training or workforce development.
- At least 3–5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience implementing or managing competency-based training systems in mining environments.
Required Skills
- Strong leadership, people management, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Strategic planning and training programme management skills.
- Knowledge of Learning Management Systems and Competency Management Systems.
- Ability to conduct training needs analyses and develop competency frameworks.
- Knowledge of instructional design and competency assessment methods.
- Sound understanding of mining equipment, operational processes and technical training requirements.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and applicable mining regulatory requirements.
- Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate training effectiveness.
- Project management and change management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong commitment to safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the site’s technical training strategy in alignment with operational priorities.
- Prepare annual training plans and budgets and monitor expenditure against approved allocations.
- Identify training needs through competency assessments, performance reviews, audits and operational requirements.
- Establish training priorities based on business needs, operational risks and compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain competency frameworks, training matrices and competency records for technical and operational roles.
- Ensure regular competency assessments, monitor skills gaps and recommend appropriate development interventions.
- Develop, coordinate and monitor training programmes for mining operations, mobile equipment operators, fixed plant operations and maintenance personnel.
- Ensure training programmes cover safety-critical tasks and environmental compliance requirements.
- Ensure operators are trained and certified before operating equipment.
- Lead and supervise trainers, assessors and training coordinators, establish performance objectives and support their professional development.
- Ensure statutory and mandatory training requirements are met and maintain accurate, auditable training documentation.
- Ensure training activities comply with applicable mining legislation, relevant ISO standards, company procedures and customer requirements.
- Support internal and external audits and implement training-related corrective actions.
- Produce monthly and quarterly reports covering training compliance, competency assessment completion, training hours, effectiveness and budget utilisation.
- Present training performance to management and recommend improvements based on results.
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, HSE, Human Resources and contractors to align training delivery with workforce needs.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, educational institutions and external training providers.
- Support workforce development and succession planning initiatives for critical positions.
- Participate in incident investigations and develop corrective training actions to address identified competency gaps.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and integrate health, safety, environmental and sustainability requirements into training programmes.
- Comply with Glencore’s environmental procedures and MUMI SARL’s environmental policy.
