Job description.

Reporting directly to the Project Engineering Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing all technical drawing and design activities required for capital projects, infrastructure development, facility modifications, and engineering activities. He/She will ensure the preparation, review, and control of technical drawings, 3D models, and design documentation, in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards. The position will also coordinate interfaces between different engineering disciplines to guarantee accurate, consistent, and constructable designs. In this way, he/she will contribute to the efficient execution of projects while integrating operational, maintenance, safety, and facility performance requirements.

His responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Coordinating drawing and design deliverables includes coordinating with engineering teams in the civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, process and earthworks disciplines, as well as preparing schedules, resource plans and deliverable logs necessary to meet project deadlines.
Developing and maintaining technical drawing standards includes establishing and maintaining drawing standards, templates, naming conventions and document management procedures to ensure consistent and compliant production within the team.
Supervise the preparation and review of technical plans and models ; this includes the production and control of 2D drawings and multidisciplinary 3D models, verifying their dimensional accuracy, consistency with engineering data, and compliance with project requirements.
Ensuring multidisciplinary coordination of designs includes the integration of different engineering interfaces, the identification of conflicts and inconsistencies, constructability reviews, and the coordination of technical solutions adapted to project requirements.
Controlling plan documentation and revisions includes managing the drawing database, tracking revision histories, controlling configuration, and maintaining structured and up-to-date technical documentation.
Providing support for procurement and tendering activities includes preparing drawings and technical information required for tender documents, producing material quantities (MTO/BOM), interpreting plans and reviewing drawings submitted by suppliers.
Providing technical support for construction activities includes issuing construction-ready plans, clarifying technical details, coordinating design changes, and resolving drawing-related problems encountered in the field.
Verify and integrate information from the site ; this includes conducting site visits, verifying the accuracy of drawings, collecting "as-built" data, and integrating changes made into technical documents and models.
Preparing and controlling the end-of-project documentation includes the production and validation of "as-built" plans, 3D models and technical files necessary for the complete and compliant handover of projects.
Supervising and developing the team of design draftsmen includes task allocation, monitoring deliverables, technical support, mentoring employees and promoting a work environment focused on quality, accuracy and performance.

Job requirements.

Qualifications and experience.

Hold a university degree in engineering, mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering, or any related discipline.
Have a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in technical drawing and design in a mining, mineral processing, industrial or heavy construction environment.
Possess proven experience in the preparation and management of multidisciplinary technical plans and 3D models.
Experience in supervising teams of design draftsmen and in managing several technical deliverables simultaneously.
Having experience in design and drafting for Greenfield and Brownfield projects is an advantage.
Experience in coordinating deliverables with engineering teams, suppliers, contractors and other project stakeholders.

Technical skills.

Proficiency in drawing and modeling software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, SolidWorks or equivalent software.
Possess a solid mastery of 3D modeling of industrial and mining facilities.
Having a good knowledge of multidisciplinary technical drawing covering in particular civil engineering, structure, mechanics, piping, electricity and earthworks.
Be able to interpret and integrate PFDs, P&IDs, layout plans, engineering calculations and process requirements into design documents.
Mastering the principles of clash detection, constructibility review and coordination of multidisciplinary interfaces.
Ability to produce and control construction-ready plans, "as-built" plans, MTO/BOM and technical documents.
Have a good knowledge of the design norms and standards applicable to mining and industrial environments, including ISO, ASME, ANSI, IEC, ASTM, AISC and BS/SANS.
Mastering the principles of document control, revision management and plan configuration.
Being able to review suppliers' drawings and integrate them into the project's technical files.

Possess a good understanding of design principles that promote the safety, constructability, operation and maintenance of facilities.
